In reply to: Gloria 's message, "How do you do the pageant skirt?" on 14:34:13 10/05/09 Mon

for the top layers of the skirt, cut circles out of organza. you will want to have 2 to 3 circles for each layer of the skirt and have 2 layers. i usually cut the circles at the length (waist to fingertips) plus 4 inches for the center hole (the waistline). the ruffled layers are gathered strips of organza attached to a circle underliner. you will need to fishline everything with a serger for the curly ends. this is a quick version because my laptop is dying lol

I have made them several different ways but use super stretch as your waistband it is easiest, stretching as you sew to attach the circle layers. You can stack your layers, meaning make your second from bottom two inches shorter and so on, all the way to the top layer. I recently purchased a narrow hem foot for my machine versus using the serger. The serger was not getting the hem tight and curly enough. Use a tight zig zag stitch, inserting your 30# fishing line as you roll your fabric. It took me several skirts to figure out what worked best. I am still learning so forums like this are great for advice!! Good Luck!
