In reply to: Bree 's message, "what is up with the prices on these off the rack dresses?" on 10:58:26 10/31/09 Sat

I think I can answer that. I bought a brand name dress not too long ago off ebay for my daughter and got a great deal. It's a beautiful dress, but it will have to be stoned before it's competitive. I have a lot of pricey leftovers from other projects I can use, but it's still going to cost me probably $200 above that to get it the way I want it. Since a lot of people buy the dresses at bridal and prom shops, they're probably paying anywhere from $200-$500 depending on the shop, the brand and any sales discounts. Add a good amount of stoning on top of that and the costs add up. It's really easy to sink $600-$700 or more into one of these dresses. That's why they seem so expensive when people start to sell them. The downside is anyone can buy a dress and add their own stonework, so you're less likely to get a good price for them.
