- Every American should read this -- Mitch, 12:58:59 12/03/05 Sat
I received the following e-mail from a friend of mine. He and I are on opposite political sides. He is a partisan Democrat, the type who blames George Bush if his mother gets a headache. I support the president and admire the leadership qualities he has the ability to summon when the shit hits the fan. Please read what I pasted below. If you agree with the sentiment, perhaps you will send it to others. I think it is important enough for me to post. Here goes:
A rare example of clear thinking stated clearly:
Every USA citizen should read this:
The lady who wrote this letter is Pam Foster of Pamela Foster and
Associates in Atlanta. She's been in business since 1980 doing interior
design and home planning. She recently wrote the following letter to a
family member serving in Iraq....... Check it out!
WHAT'S ALL THE FUSS?
"Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not
started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11,
2001?
Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, not brutally
murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan, across the Potomac from our
nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania? Did nearly three
thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing
death that day, or didn't they?
And I'm supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was "desecrated" when
an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it wet? Well, I don't.
I don't care at all.
I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for
incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.
I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start
caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in
Saudi Arabia.
I'll care when Abu Musab al-Zarqawi tells the world he is sorry for
hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling,
slashed throat.
I'll care when the cowardly so-called "insurgents" in Iraq come out and
fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in
mosques.
I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of
nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide
bombs.
I'll care when the American media stops pretending that their First
Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international law instead
of the United States Constitution's Bill of Rights.
In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing up
an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don't care.
When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who have
been humiliated in what amounts to a college hazing incident, rest
assured that I don't care.
When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not
to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank
that I don't care.
When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat,
and fed "special" food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is
complaining that his holy book is being "mishandled," you can absolutely
believe in your heart of hearts that I don't care.
And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled "Koran"
and other times "Quran." Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and ---- you got it, I
DON'T CARE!
If you agree with this view point, pass this on to all your e-mail
friends. Sooner or later, it'll get to the people responsible for this
ridiculous behavior! If you don't agree, then by all means hit the
delete button. Should you choose the latter, then please don't complain
when more atrocities committed by radical Muslims happen here in our
great country.

- To my friend Mitch -- Phil, 09:28:57 11/12/05 Sat
Aren’t the “Arabs” patriots also? How many places have we bombed? You have a one eyed view of the world my friend. You should read the bible. Jesus could help you. Oh and I know you will think of some witty come back to me calling you my friend but you will always be my friend. No matter how much hate is in your heart. You are in need of a worldview, not a hurt view. While the lives that were lost left us too soon. They live lives that were better than most others in the world. Not only because they were from the U.S. because there were people from other countries in those buildings that lost their lives but because they lived life outside of poverty and desperation and thank god for that. You should re-think how you put all the Middle Eastern people in a box your comment. “Islamism enemies view us "Great Satanists".” It’s Al-Qaeda that has a problem with us, not all of Islam. Al Qaeda are radicals broken off from the true word of Islam that preaches peace above all things. Oh, and if your looking to say I am a part of Islam, I am catholic if you couldn’t tell by my earlier comments, another religion that preaches peace above all else. Also, if you think I know all this stuff because I’m looking to be a member, your wrong, I just like to study the whole story before I pass judgment. We went into the country we invaded because of the threat of weapons of mass destruction. Not because of the attack. We found Sadam, not Benladin and all the other Al-Qaeda links were found in countries other than Iraq.
You say the only way to deal with evil is to confront it every time. Your prejudice is evil. I am confronting it. There are a lot of good people in this country of the Islamic faith that have been hurt by people with your attitude. Sadly, good people have been hurt very badly because of the same hate worldview that you posses. Notice I said the same thing twice in very different ways. It’s the only way I know how to get my point across. Look, I am in no way defending the attack. I am in no way advocating violence of any kind if you haven’t been able to tell. But what I am advocating what we can learn from the attack about ourselves, about each other, and about the other life forms the share this little piece of rock floating through the endless recess of space.
I know you intentions are good. You just need to take off the blood red hate glasses and look at the world through more humanistic eyes. While you are a talented person, I can tell from your song. Please focus on finding a place for peace in your heart. “Let ye who is with out faith cast the first stone.” Jesus said that. Are you with out sin?
Take care my friend.

- 4 years later -- Mitch S, 20:49:11 09/11/05 Sun
Hello DD and all the other Canarsie peeps that read my Sept 11 posts every year.
Well let's see. Today is Sept 11, 2005 and I'm still alive. My family is doing ok and we have not had another attack on American soil since the coordinated ones four years ago. At least none that have been verified. I'm still hawkish though. I'm not a war monger, but I see three options for dealing with evil and the only one that makes sense to me, is to confront it. Every time. Every damn time.
I'm going to keep it short and sweet this go round. I know that my life has been changed forever by the cowardly attacks of some jealous and petty arabs who celebrate death the way every other culture on Earth celebrates life. And I am a realist with regard to how our islamist enemies view us "Great Satanites". But I am also a patriot. Don't mess with my country or my family, or I will kill you. It is that simple. I guess there aren't enough people like me in these parts. Sometimes I feel like a redneck in a blue state!
Anyway, I told you that I'd be short this year, so that's about it. I'm writing another song and hopefully Gregg will link it to this web site. I hope you liked Promised Land. If you didn't hear it yet, hit the link for it on the home page, scroll down to the bottom of the lyrics and hit the listen button. You need a player of some type. Crank it up and let me know what you think!

to my new friend Mitch Slotnick
I hope this letter finds you well. I appreciate the rants and irate tone that you take whenever I post something. It obviously has such an affect on you that you can’t keep yourself from calling me all types of colorful names. Which most likely means you are a democrat. As for my point of view, it is just that, my point of view. I am sorry you do not agree with me but the fact is, bad things do happen for good reasons. Let’s educate you a bit, shall we? If there were no 9/11 much of the country would have no idea that there is this big bad threat call Al-Quaida. We wouldn’t have had an up rising in pride for the country we live in and we wouldn’t be having this conversation. As the country shifts in attitude and latitude as to who is truly responsible for 9/11, we need to look at who is in charge of leading the fight for our safety and our rights. So far the current administration has not proven to me that our country is priority, as is stated their mission statement. You might know it as the Constitution. That thing that our four fathers wrote, oh, it’s also the same thing that gives me the right to post what ever I please on the Canarsie web sight as long as I am not imposing on the right for you to do the same. If you ‘d read it, you would know that. Now, through out this posting and e-mail- (because I did do both)- did you notice how I didn’t use any vulgar word to try to get my point across? Normally those who need to use that type of language don’t have the education to respond with out it. Since you now have my e-mail, by my choice, I would love to hear from you and you only. If you post my e-mail on the Canarsie web sight or anywhere else, I will be sure to sue you for not respecting my privacy. I hope you have a good Christmas and New Year. Take care.
Your friend,
Phill

He was a retired NYC Detective who worked for Cantor Fitzgerald as a security guard. Richard lived at 9011 Bayview Place in Canarsie and then moved to 102nd St. after he married, and then finally to Levittown L.I. He is survived by his wife Margaret and children Lisa, Richard & Erin and grandchiildren Christopher and Joseph. He loved to make people laugh and I am sure he was doing what he was trained to do by helping others in this terrible catastrophe. He is missed by all who knew him.

Just wanted to say thank you to Mitch for sticking up for me when that moron "Totenvulf" replied to my post by basically saying that I helped the 9/11 attacks just by filling up my car with gas.
Totenvulf.....you are nothing but a liberal son of a bitch who should get the f*ck out of America and go hide under a rock somewhere.
I wonder if you had lost your mother, father, or even your child on 9/11 if you would still be so god damned righteous on this board??
This board is not meant for assholes like you. It was created for people...AMERICANS...to post their thoughts, fears, etc.. about 9/11. NOT for schmucks like you to come here a bash other people's personal experiences about 9/11.
Go to hell Liberal!
Thank you again Mitch.

I live in florida now, but the day of the terror I was at work speaking with a client on the phone when, I looked over at my tv set on cnbc and they showed this smoke coming out of the twin towers, I sat in disbelief and horror of the many people who may have no way out. my sisters both work on wall street and I phone them right away. as we spoke another plane hit as I watched on the tv. I just screamed and told them to get out. I stayed in the office till after noon till I heard they were safe. I am so fortunate that none of my family members were injured. my aunt had retired from aon insurance co. where she lost many of her co-workers. I too wanted to drive to ny asap to help as many people as I could, but here in orlando the lines around the corner to give blood and every supermarket donated 1.00 of every sale to the victims families and all the special events held here helped me feel better about not being able to help in ny. I just visited last week and just cried, I also went to visit canarsie and cried at the way it has become so much like a slum, why does it have to be that way??I will never inderstand...

It is a feeling that will last forever what we had to endure. Growing up in Canarsie was a place where so many people of different faiths and races for the most part, seemed to get along so well. I treasure those wonderful memories. Now, we have to realize that there are so many animals out there that must hate to survive in their sick way of life. So many wonderful people have left us. So many families and friends have broken hearts. I did work at the World Trade Center many years ago, and I was in the Second Tower on the 83rd Floor. My prayers are with the families and friends of those who perished on that day. We need Love and Peace!!

- A day I will never forget. -- Penny Glass ( Redisch), 23:17:10 02/25/03 Tue
That awful day, I pray something like that never happens again. My husband, thank God, is a survivor of that tragic day. He was at work on the 97th floor of the 2nd building that was hit. Someone yelled out "get out" & he did. He grabbed his briefcase, walked down, then took the elevator down & left the building. Took the S.I. ferry to S.I. where his brother lived. I did not hear from him for over an hour, not knowing if he was alive or not. Over 90 people were lost from his office. We had to relocate to Florida since that is where his job relocated to. We were very fortunate as to the outcome of that day, emotionally, not that great. We had to leave family & friends & our wonderful New York behind. We know no one here. I miss NY but it will never be the same. We were all touched by that tragic day. We must try to learn something from it - hatred does not solve anything, it destroys.
God Bless America.

- Ready to write finally -- Mitch Slotnick, 21:11:08 08/28/02 Wed
I've been visiting this 9/11 web page every month or so since Gregg started it. I was curious to read all the entries and deliberated for a while if I should post a message or not.
I still remember logging onto AOL shortly before 9:00A.M.They always have a picture and a couple of news items on their site. I was taken aback when I saw the picture of the first tower hit. The picture showed a gaping hole with thick black smoke spewing out of it. I got very angry at AOL! I remember thinking that this was a very f'd up joke on AOL's part. It certainly couldn't be real! I thought that it might have been a promo for a new movie or something along those lines.
After my angry reaction, I ran to the nearest T.V. and like everyone else, I was in shock and even denial! I am a logical person and this attack was out of the clear blue sky (no pun intended). I knew that this was an attack before the second plane hit. As a former Marine, I always stay engaged in world events and always knew that evil existed and hatred would again be aimed at America, and still it seemed like some Bruce Willis flick. For a long time. Must've been a few days before the shock wore off and my reality forced a new emotion into my head.
Without getting too mushy, I believe I went from shock to deep saddness, to incredible anger, and finally, a strong as steel resolve.
Many out there would have you and I believe that now is the time for us to "heal" as a nation. Not me! Not yet! There will be time for healing down the road. We have too much to do before that. It's almost one year later and I'm still raw. I know in my heart that there is still a great threat from many "Islamist's" that would like nothing more than to kill you and me. I believe that for the future of my children and their children, that we must continue to be strong in our resolve. This is the classic battle between good and evil. I'm not being dramatic. Most Americans want instant resolution and instant gratification. I am more patient than that. Sept 11th, 2001 changed me. I hope it has changed all of us. It's funny that if I would have posted here a few months ago, my words would probably be identical, with few, if any changes. Now you know why I wrestled with typing this message. It sort of opens me up to some interesting responses! I am happy that I found the nerve to write this. If anything, it is an extremely honest insight to my thinking process and I apologize for nothing.

- Greg Saucedo - 9/11 hero -- Jimmy Brusca, 16:44:48 08/30/03 Sat
Greg Saucedo (class of '87) SSHS football jersey retired --
One of the greatest people to ever walk the halls of South Shore High School, Greg Saucedo, will have his football jersey retired before the Vikings' first home game, this Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003.
Greg will officially become the first person to have his number retired at South Shore, a fitting tribute to a great man who saved thousands of lives, and made the people around him better.
For those of you who knew Greg (class of 1987), not much needs to be said. For those of you who did not know Greg, he was an absolute joy to be around, a great person, a gentleman, the captain of the Vikings' football team and a hero who gave his life on 9/11 as a member of the FDNY.
The ceremony is at 11 am at the SSHS football field, this Saturday, Sept. 6 (about one hour before game time). Friends of Greg - and there were many - please spread the word. South Shore and the football team were a big part of Greg's life, and we all know how proud his family will be that day. And I know Greg will be watching proudly, as well.
Fell free to attach a message, or a memory, in tribute to Greg.

- If I Knew -- Someone, 17:33:11 09/18/02 Wed
IF I KNEW
If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.
If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.
There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"
But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.
So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear
Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

- 9-11 LIGHTS ON!!!!! -- Michelle (Neckonoff) Jenner, 03:52:25 08/16/02 Fri
9/11 LIGHTS ON +++++++++ PLEASE forward this email to everyone in your address book asking
them to also forward it. Please join us on 9/11.....................we have less than a month to get
the word out all across this great land we love and call the United States
of America. Let's see how powerful e-mail can be! On Wednesday, September 11, 2002, everyone in the USA who will be driving a motor vehicle is asked to drive with their headlights on during daylight hours. Though no explanation is needed as to why we are commemorating September 11...........
We hope more importantly to pay respect to the victims of that day, show our nation's solidarity and show support for our men and women of the Armed Forces. You can help by sending this e-mail on to others! Remember......................9/11 LIGHTS ON !

As I was reading some of the messages on the board, I could not help but get upset. Fortunately, I did not lose a loved one that day but I was there. I work on Water Street and heard the first plane hit, saw it sticking out from the side of the tower, paper flying everywhere. It looked like a ticker-tape parade. I actually witnessed the second one hit and fell to my knees in my office. It was awful. I will never forget what I felt and saw that day. When the first tower collapsed, I thought the world was coming to an end. Never had I heard such a sound. I have to admit that I still find myself crying when I see something related to that day. However, I do take comfort in the fact that the people of the city were amazing that day. People were freaked out but there was a calmness in the air. There weas no chaos. All people wanted to do was get as far away from downtown as possible. For a city made up of hundreds of different races and ethnicities, we were all the same that day. Just human beings. People were helping each other, cabbies pulled over, raised the volumes of their radios and scores of us stood listening trying to make some kind of sense about what was happening. Some stores dragged T.V's out to the street and we watched the horrible things that were happening in the rest of the country. There were so many little heroes that day. The people who let others get in front of them on phone lines or gave quarters to those who had no change. I was really proud to be a native New Yorker that day and continue to be.

- 9-11 -- SN, 12:03:06 07/11/02 Thu
My husband and I were married two weeks before September 11th at the Tribeca Rooftop in Manhattan overlooking the twin towers. We spent our wedding weekend at the Millenium Hotel (across the street from the WTC) as did many of our friends and family. We encouraged our guests to visit the trade center's mall, have lunch on the promenade and take in the beauty of the twin towers. I am so thankful that our out of town guests had one last opportunity to see the downtown area before it was destroyed.
On September 10th I returned back to work at One World Financial Center - September 11th was my second day back. I was a little late that day so I decided not to stop for iced coffee at the coffee stand on Liberty Street - directly across from the trade center - as I did everyday. When I reached my office on the 39th floor - the first plane had just struck. I could see the flames shooting out of the building from my window. I called my father and told him to turn on the tv - something "bad" had just happened to the World Trade Center. I asked him to call my husband, who was home from work that day, and tell him that I am evacuating, but, that I am ok. A group of us from my department walked down the stairs which let us out on to West Street - just as the second plane hit. We opened the emergency door and saw debris flying by us. Some chose to stay - I chose to run. I ran south into Battery Park City and could not comprehend what had happened - all of the people in the street with looks of utter confusion and horror. Cell phones were not working and I wanted to call my husband to let him know I was alright - and more importantly to find out what was going on. A dry cleaners in Battery Park City was nice enough to open their private phones to anyone who needed to us them. My husband told me it was a terrorist attack and I needed to get out of Battery Park City and head home. I couldn't find any of my co-workers at the time and frankly hoped they would put out the fire and we'd be let back into the building. I began my walk home to the Upper East Side. Walking up Water Street I could still see the flames from the towers and as much as I didn't want to look - I was compelled. It was just so unbelievable. About 20 minutes into my walk, I wanted to call my husband again to check in. The lines for the pay phones were at least 15-20 people long. I was in Chinatown - when all of a sudden everyone stopped what they were doing and looked over at the tower that was collapsing. It was a horrific sight. I did manage to get on a payphone at that point and spoke to my husband who was beside himself, having no idea where I was when that tower came down. I joined a group of about 50 people heading uptown and continued my journey home. People with hand held radios were shouting out the latest news about the Pentagon and the unaccounted planes still out there. I finally got home at 11:30 am (2 hours and 45 minutes after the first plane hit) and just collapsed in my husband's arms as we cried and cried, thanking god that we were safe.
I still think about that day - every day. I am one of the fortunate ones - and I thank god I was able to get out of that area as quickly as I did. My company never moved back to the World Financial Center, and thankfully, out of 2100 employees, 2100 came home. Our wedding pictures have become a part of history - as the twin towers served as the backdrop for many of our formal photos. Again, I am one of the fortunate ones.
Thank you for reading this - it helps to write about it.
God bless America - God Bless New York.

- what a sad day -- me, 18:59:30 05/26/02 Sun
it was so sad as i drove to go food shopping, after i took my daughter to school, at about 8:50am. i hear on the radio, how a plain hit into the world trade center, they said it might be a missel, so i contiued driving to go food shopping, then when i got into pathmark- i saw people in disbelief... so i just left food shopping, and i just went home i put on the t.v and i saw the second plane go into tower two, i thought they were showing a instant replay. then my dad told me that was the second plan. so then i new this was a planned terrible act so i was a nervous reck. so i left and went to get my daughter from school, the phones were not working, and i was so nervous the whole day, i feel so bad for all the inocent people whos lifes are gone, and all the family members who are with out there moms, dads, and husbands, and wifes, i hope this never has to happen again to our country, i was so made cause i couldnt understant how we didnt have better protection,,,, expecially in nyc we should have been prepared for this. and had prevention practice, a goal just in case something like this ever was going to take place. but i guess we were not prepaired for this sad horror story. i wish we didnt have to let so many people into our country, cause we cant trust foreiners they dont like us very much, and they live of the fat of our land, well god bless all who suffered in the 9-11-02 tragedey, and everyones family~ god bless america

- WTC -- Diane (DeGuglielmo) Uihlein, 11:20:22 05/29/02 Wed
I live in Florida but New York will always be my true home.I feel guilty that I wasn't there when this horrific tragedy struck. I guess that doesn't make much sense but it's how I feel deep inside. My husband & I wanted to just get in the car and go home to NY but better judgement prevailed and we stayed with our family. I'm grateful that the people I know, that were close to the towers, were safe but my heart breaks for all those that were lost and their families. Everytime we gather together for a special occasion we always raise a glass to all the victims of 9/11.
Sometimes it seems the people here are detached from what happened in NY but this is America's Tragedy!
I'm so proud to say I'm a New Yorker and I'm so proud of how all New Yorkers responded.
