Josh,

I've always liked GE products - they seem to be pretty reliable and I've had problems with Sylvania. I don't think you need OEM when it comes to bulbs.

On you MPG, I doubt the spring has any effect, and even tires won't mess you up 7 MPG.

I'd look at your EGR system, but to be honest that should trip a fault code. I assume you have no check engine light.

I wonder if your catalytic converter is plugged. 249K is quite a few miles, and they do fail eventually. Think of an engine as an air pump - all you're doing is moving air, and the easier you can move the air, the better. If the exhaust is plugged, the engine has to work harder to expel the exhaust, and your mileage will suffer. You might also check your intake for restriction.

You can also see if you can "coast" the same with the clutch in (or in "N") as it did before. That would check for any binding in the drivetrain.

I guess you could have a "dribbling" injector that is wasting fuel, but that should show up as a bad fuel smell in the exhaust.

You could have a burned valve or something, but that usually causes an "new" or different engiene sound.

Just some ideas....if I think of others, I'll respond more.....good luck, glen
