The following quotation is from Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone by Diana Gabaldon. Copyright 2022 All Rights Reserved. Chapter 110 . . . Confused Noise And Garments Rolled In Blood . . .

“They will have gone to - to my house.” Elspeth spoke softly. “The wounded Loyalists who didn’t come here. I’ll - I’ll need to go and tend them.” She was holding her son’s hand, though, fingers laced tightly with his, and her face was full of anguish when she looked at him.

I nodded, my throat tight in sympathy. I didn’t need to see the thoughts racing across her face to know what they were: love and fear warring with duty. And I knew the deeper fear that was beginning to bloom within her. Her eyes were fixed on his bare feet, willing them to move.

[> Diana has made the Revolutionary War so much more deeply understood to me. That it wasn’t as easy as “once you’re in America, of course you’re a rebel!” Reading about loved ones (Lord John) and their thoughts really gave me a different attitude. -- Kathy in PA, Sun, November 12 2023, 3:17:43

[> [> We never really learned about Loyalists in school. In New England we learned about the doings in Boston, tea party, bunker Hill, massacre, and the battles at Lexington and Concord. Not much about how long and drawn out it was. Suddenly George Washington shows up and it's over? -- kgp, Mon, November 13 2023, 5:28:56
