I think as a Hollywood, leave you brain at the door, action movie Troy was somewhat entertaining. Combat that isn't Sci-Fi, World War 2, or Medieval is something cool and new in a way.

However, as an adaptation of The Illiad, it was awful. They crushed the story in every way they could, focusing on Achilles too much and eliminating the Gods (and many other characters), as well as killing Agememnon and Menalaus which, to the best of my memory, never happened. They were also portrayed at evil jerks, but they were really not bad guys, nor were the Trojans pillars of society. The fact that Helen was seduced and readily went with Paris (adding to the Menalaus is bad motif) was just wrong, where is the golden apple!? The slave woman is suddenly Paris/Hector's cousin and Achilles love interest? Maybe they read a different Illiad than I did. I'm a Greek Mythology nerd, and thats why I really hated Troy.
