That was probably the most shocking phone call I got from home....to me it was news, even beyond news... I don't know how to put it but it goes like; I lived in Pom last year and I had this neighabour who is from the same area in Laiagam. We were good family friends and we came to know each other very well. This family (my neighabour) had a daughter who was around 18 last year and some other kids too. Now there was this guy who played for your mioks team couple of years ago which I came to know because he happened to be friends with some of my mates. He was diognised with HIV/AIDS in 2005. Two days ago I made a routine call to my family in Pom just to check upon them and guess what? This girl (my neighabour's daughter) got married to HIV/AIDS positive person. The girl knew it all alone, her parents knew it, everyone in that street knew it, it was the hottest gossip in that street for months. The guy was a regular around the place so whenever he turned up to drink or see his mates eveyone especially the women would sit down and start wishpering and gossiping about him...you guys know what I am talking about here, Enga woman....we all know what they are like. I asked my family why? They don't know...maybe it's LOVE. I actually don't know what to say and how to put it but I am saddened because this was the only girl my neighabour had and her mum and dad used to spend so much money and resources on this girl.....all that is a waste now. I can't imagine how the poor parents are feeling now, not to mention her extended relatives. Can this be LOVE or MADNESS? The Merck company today released an analysis of cancelled trials which suggest that its vaccine might have increased susceptibility to HIV infection. Nine Australians are believed to be among thousands of people who are unaware a once-promising vaccine for AIDS has increased their infection risk after they participated in clinical trials around the world. Professor Ian Ramshaw from the John Curtin School of Medical Research says it is highly significant news after disappointing results from a number of other HIV vaccine trials. "This is one of the larger trials where they're basically looking at susceptibility and it's extremely disappointing, because the immunity is quite high in these individuals," he said. "It means, by the looks of things, there won't be a HIV vaccine for a good while yet, whether we'll get one at all." Trials cancelled The multinational trials involving more than 3,000 HIV-negative volunteers were cancelled in September after a large-scale study found the vaccine was not effective at preventing infection. Researchers have this morning revealed far worse news - those who received the V520 vaccine are more susceptible to acquiring the AIDS virus. The volunteers were warned to protect themselves from exposure to AIDS but were not told if they were administered the vaccine or the inactive placebo. The information was kept secret to minimise biases in the study. Scientists will decide over the next 10 days whether those involved in the trial should be told about whether they were given the vaccine or not. Merck says volunteers can opt out of the study now and be told if they were given the HIV vaccine. It seems apparent that this disease is like a curse from God (even though God does not allow bad things to happen to His people) for people who are abusing their body for earthly pleasures. Biblically, our body is the temple of God and if we start trashing it then we should expect the inevitable. Only God will be the judge of those who got the disease through other means like rape, spouse being unfaithful, and children being born with the virus or infected blood transfusions etc. The very important thing now is for us to prevent ourselves from being infected—taking extra precautions and making right decisions. The only reason AIDS didn't take off the same way in Australia as it has in Africa was the massive fear campaign on our TVs. "The Grim Reaper". It made us too scared to have sex outside marriage, and if we did, we used condoms. Compare this to Africa where men will not wear condoms and believe in "dry sex" which causes more trauma (and blood entry port) to the woman. Too many people in Africa still believe AIDS is from witchcraft, rathe than a virus, and so fail to be careful not to touch blood, or use condoms. Another major factor in keeping AIDS numbers down was that the government gave (and still gives) free clean syringes and needles to drug addicts. Its not so much for the drug addicts but if you keep the numbers of drug addicts with AIDS down, the risk of it transferring to the general population is kept down. I cared for a girl dying of AIDS in about 1990 in Australia. Yes, she was white. She caught it from her husband, who caught it from his previous girlfriend, who's ex had been a drug addict. Have people in PNG not seen people dying of AIDS? Why do so many people have sex without condoms? I know... ideally... abstinence and faithfulness are the way to go, but this will never be 100% realistic. To save the so called "inocent" AIDS victims (rape, blood transfusions, birth, helping someone who is bleeding) free of AIDS, the rest of the community must be free of AIDS as well. This includes rapists and prostitutes. If they are free from AIDS, they cannot transmit it to "innocent" people. One unfortunate thing I heard is that the HIV Coordinator that looks after monies from donor agencies like AusAID and the government seem to be getting rich overnight. this person comes from my village and he has been seen to be throwing cash left right and center. this is blatant and a gross missuse of funds and such people should be thrown behind bars. It is the actions of irresponsible people like this that stops PLWHA from getting enough care and medication to proplong their lives also it stops people from recieving information about this disease that may save their lives. The main idea was to eradict colored (black) race. Its a virus that weakens the energy supplied to the white blood cells. The one who came up with the anti-dote, (a taxas man), was kidnapped by authorities. The book written (half complete) by this man is till circulated among a group of people. They can't publish it, or else, they follow their leader. Just look at the Statistics of white and black(colored) AIDS victims!!! there's something to tell, lady aussie woman. I'm white but I believe in human dignity. Its just the color, everything is same. Why discrimination? its like you like apples but you prefer green from red apples, or fish from fresh water and sea. For your info, the chinese gov't tried to invent another, but they failed to live up to their invention. They thought, it was a way of controlling their population.
