As you guys may have heard, I have been battling another plateau, which despite my stringent stciking to my diet even had the scale going UP! I was ready to scream. Well, the current issue of Woman's World magazine has an article about a woman named Wendie Wilbur who was going through the same type of thing after 8 months of success on the weight watcher's points plan. She had lost 40 lbs and then all of a sudden it stopped working and she even started gaining weight! She did a lot of research on weightloss and anatomy and began to focus on the concept of the human metabolisim as a furnace. With comparrison, if one continues to put less and less fuel on a fire it will die down...put the same amount and it will stay the same. She also found that in looking back on her food journal that she had lost the most weight after holidays when she had eaten more and then made up for it by cutting back. She decided to try a new strategy in which instead of sticking to 1200 calories per day she alternated with high and low calorie days. A typical week involved a rotation of calorie allotments such as; 1000, 1300, 1000, 1800, 1000, 1300, 1250 for a 7-day period. If you weigh more than 200 lbs you eat more calories per week and if you weigh less then less calories per week, similar to the weight watcher's points allotments. After 1 week on her new plan she had lost 3 1/2 lbs, and she continued to lose, dropping 6 more dress sizes.

I tried the stategy for only 3 days and dropped 3 1/2 lbs. I was so scared to do the 1800 cal day!! but it was the next morning after the high-calorie day that I had the drop on the scale!!!

She has a website and there are variuos message boards. The link given in the article is http://pub70.ezboard.com/flightenup78347frm4

You will have to copy and paste the link. The aritcle is in the current Woman's world magazine sold in supermarkets by the check-out lines. It is the Feb 11, 2003 issue and is only on sale for 1 week. The article is on page 20 through 23.

I will let you know how things go as i continue to implement this new stategy. On the days which one is supposed to eat more food I feel like I am really pigging out!!! It is hard to get used to eating this much food! On the low calorie days I just use a spiruteen shake for breakfast and then it is sooo easy to still have great meals for lunch and dinner. I am freaking out about how much food i am eating now. Oh yeah....that day that I ate the 1800 cal I didn't even get to excercise when the scale then dropped the next day so much. Really freaky. I can only assume that even though I had previously thought that I had lucked out after cheating to still lose weight that it was actually the varying of the caloric intake that was HELPING me lose by keeping my metabolisim guessing so to speak.

very very interesting.

love and LITE,
Dreemy
