Long time no see! Well to update you on my weight loss progress. I think I mentioned before that I was interested in weightloss surgery. I know some of you may feel that this is not the way to go but for me it is an option that I am fully looking into. I'm 5'3" and weigh in at 212.

So last week I went to The Wish Center for my initial consultation. I am a candidate for surgery. I however am not interested in the gastric bypass but in the Lap-band surgery. In the lap-band they do not "cut" the stomach. A small plastic inflatable tube is positioned around the top portion of the stomach to create a small pouch. This just means your food must be chewed up to the consistency of applesauce in order to pass through the opening. You still use all of your intestines (unlike with the bypass that bypasses about 7 foot of small intestine). So it's not quite as "invasive" a surgery as the gastric. Also the lap-band surgery is reversible should the need arise to do so.

Right now they have me on the trial diet which is supposed to mirror the type of diet I would then be on post-surgery for the rest of my life. It's pretty similiar to the Weight watchers type of diet in that it's low-fat, low-sugar. They do want me to eat high-protein and to eat 3 meals a day PLUS 3 snacks a day. And try to have protein in every one of them. This is a challenge for me. The other big challenge is no pop. None. ZILCH. FOREVER!!! Carbonation and caffeeine are my enemy. This is proving to be a very hard thing for me to give up. I think I did better giving up cigarettes years ago. So far I'm doing okay on this diet. I have been going to Curves and walking. I'm following the diet as close as I can. I admit to having "cheated" a couple times with a drink or two of Diet Coke but at least it's not the 4 or 5 cans or bottles a day that I'm used to!!!! I'll weigh myself probably tomorrow to see how my first week has gone.

Wish me luck.

I think I find myself drawn to this path (surgery) because I've failed at so many tries at dieting. My 7 year old daughter is a major motivator for me to lose weight. I've broken down many times this summer because I haven't been able to fit in rides with her at Kings Island or I haven't been able to run with her at soccer practice when they do parents vs. kids. Sometimes she'll say something like "do you wish you were skinny so you could ride the scrambler with me?". I just tear up and say yes, very much so. It breaks my heart. She knows I am trying for this surgery and will now say things like "when you get skinny we can do....". It's almost like she has a dream for me to be skinny too. If this surgery helps me to give her (and myself) this dream I have to try it.

Thinking of you all and seeing us all thin and healthy!
