Cradling Dante in her lap and shielding him from the bounces of the black stallion's stride, Kalea suddenly pricked her ears and gave her utmost attention to Gabriel and the Guardian. She was extremely curious about anything to do with the magnificent winged creature, and here was an opportunity to hear it from the mouth of the Flame himself! Kalea exchanged a pointed glance with her sister and turned her sensitive ears to catch every word of the conversation.

The Guardian hesitated almost imperceptibly before continuing to stride forward. His long avian legs, deep ruby red but appearing black in the dim light, carried him with all the ease and grace of royalty. The flowing golden tail looked like the train of a robe, and the matching crest was like a crown above his short, white-blond hair. His noble head was that of a bird and the enormous wings protruding from his back were colored in tones of fire; yet his torso and arms were very human, and for the second time Kalea noted that his hands had only three fingers and a thumb, like those of any Jellicle. He was the perfect mixture of man and avian, having both feathers and skin.

"My kind are gone from these shores," he said quietly, and to Kalea his voice sounded more like a hollow mountain wind than anything else. "Not that there were ever many...my kind were unique among even those they would call brother. Warrior, these lands were once filled with halfbloods---creatures both man and animal---ages ago. But there was a terrible war. The humans rose to destroy the halfbloods, and very nearly succeeded. But there was one group of companions, eight all told, who evaded the raids for years---these were seven halfbloods and one human. One of these was a phoenix halfblood, and I am a direct descendent of him; I bear his name. And you," he said, suddenly turning to look very directly at Kalea. "You are the spitting image, little Jellicle, of the most famous halfblood of them all, who escaped across the sea with her mate and child to lead the resistence of her people. What do they call you?"

The little queen shrank back in her seat for a moment before finding her voice. "K-Kalea," she stammered. "Kaleadora is my name."

Wesimbi froze, and in that moment it seemed that every creature in the woods, trees and all, held its breath. "You bear her name," the Guardian murmured at last. "Lady of the Golden Light---that is the meaning of it. And you," he continued, looking to Nashota. "The strongest of the sons of Kaleadora Restil was pointed, and his descendants carried this trait. You two---did you ever know that Jellicles are merely feline halfbloods, that there used to be so many different kinds? Why, the halfblood companions of this heroine were a lioness, a lemur, an otter, and a bat, and she mated a lynx. Did you know?"

He stared at them for a moment longer, for the first time in his life at a loss for words. "The two of you may well be in the bloodline of the greatest heroes our people have ever known."

Flabbergasted, Kalea simply stared at him. Halfblood? she wondered. There were...more? She felt a strange sort of connection between the Guardian and herself and Nashota.

"Please, sir," she whispered, before she even knew she would speak. "Please---tell us of this halfblood whose name I bear."

For a moment it looked as though he would speak, but then Wesimbi turned abruptly and continued walking. "This is not the time or place for such tales."

Kalea looked fearfully at her sister as the horses began to move again. ::Nashy---do you know anything about this?::

OOC: Hope you don't mind me incorporating a bit of the story I'm writing...it does, after all, feature Kaleadora and Wesimbi, and I thought it would be a neat, kinda mythical twist to our story. What d'you think?
