Gwenneth's green-gold eyes shone as she looked from one to the other of her little group, and a purr throbbed in her throat. ::Monet,:: she said warmly into the mindlink, ::you are a dear, wonderful fool. How strange is this friendship, so hastily formed, that would have you follow us over the Hedrons!::

She fastened her gaze upon Angelina, and tilted her head curiously. ::This is a peculiar creature,:: she agreed. ::Such anger in her heart for one so young.... She is hard as stone, Monet, yet just a child. I have never met her like.::

At repose in her boy's lap, Gwenneth lowered her head to rest her chin on her paws. The transformation had drained her, and she longed for a small space of rest.

Jeffrey stroked his cat's back gently. He was worn out, physically and mentally, and his eyes began to droop closed even as he sat there on the rocks. Gwennie's presence was an unparalleled comfort to him, as was the knowledge that Alexis would not be abandoning him to the imp. "Please," he said, "a little rest?"

With an impatient toss of her wild hair, Angie gave the three of them a look of disdain. Through her jaded eyes, Jeff's weariness was weakness, and Alexis' heartfelt distress was absurd equivocation. But when she looked down at the masked Silent Paw she saw, with a flash of intuition (or perhaps foresight), a drained and wasted body desperate for the nourishment that only the lir-bond could provide. The vision was gone as quickly as it had come, but it left the girl decidedly unsettled---but also reminded her of the reason she had agreed to help. The Silent Paw liren was dying, slowly but surely, and Angie had bound herself to help in any way that she could.

"Fine," she said rather sharply. "Just...get over there, under those overhanging rocks, in case the Guardian comes along."

Jeff complied and Alexis followed, but once they were safely under the rocks, the boy noticed that Angie was still out in the open. "What about you?" he asked.

"Why should you care?" she returned with a snarl. "I'm not tired." She sat down on a rock, folding her legs in front of her, and with the silver moonlight on her bright hair and bronzed skin she looked like some wild mountain dryad, staring moodily out over the valleys from which they had come.
