Shivanath,

With all due respect, I believe that the quote from Mejda (repeated again below) does in fact talk about doing Kechari mudra "while practicing Kriya". Yoganandaji's words are a bit open to interpretation, but I think that's just what he is talking about.

It also depends on which monk you speak with about Kriya and Kechari, regarding whether to do 1st Kriya with Kechari.

Regardless, the Guru did talk about it in public, did recommend it to some in private, lessons mention it, some SRF monks talk about it. On the other hand, Yogananda never required it or even pushed it.

I agree with anonymous that Yoganandaji's children are indeed well taken care of, whether they are practicing Kechari with the 1st Kriya, without the first Kriya, or not at all.

"While practicing Kriya, when the mind becomes enchanted in listening to nada, the sound of Aum, a divine nectar-like current flows from the sahasrara. Through the performance of Kechari Mudra, touching the tip of the tongue to the uvula or "little tongue," (or placing it in the nasal cavity behind the uvula), that divine life-current draws the prana from the senses into the spine and directs it up through the chakras to Vaishvanara (Universal Spirit), uniting the consciousness with Spirit. The entire body is thereby spiritualized and energized. As a result, a perceptible glow may emanate from the body."
