Nobody's argued that the system doesn't need some working on. I think people just take issue with running off to the corporate casino with money we're apparently borrowing (according to Dick Cheney on Fox News Sunday). That means we're banking on putting FUTURE SS money into the stock market. Of course, CEOs will love having the influx of money into their coffers.

But on he heels of the ENRON debacle, do we want our SS benefits in the hands of these sharks?

Ask a former ENRON employee if their retirement money and stock options were safe with their CEO.

The system needs some creative compromise. Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neil were smart enough to push for a higher retirement age and lowering of benefit in 1983.

The problem is, african-american males hae a MUCH lower life expectency than all others, so many of them pay into a system that they never get to benefit from.

What NEEDS to happen... those who don't need the benefit should be persuaded to forfeit it for a tax deduction.
