you guys made me remember granma.
she had this huge natural stone and mud fireplace.
when i was very small, sometimes she would come get me to stay the night with her.
she wore those 1890 calico dresses that came down to the tips of her toes. when we got ready for bed, she would get close to the fire and hike up her dress to the waist. then she would turn around and pull it up in the rear. sometimes it seemed like she would about catch her drawers on fire!(they were those 'gone with the wind' type that came down below her knees). then she would run and jump in bed. she put heated rocks in bed for me.
i sure remember that fireplace and bed. the bed had a 5ft headboard, feather tick, and those big ol thick hand made quilts!
she would bank the fire because it wouldn't burn all night. i didn't have to get up 'til granma had the room all warmed up.
i saved a stone from the fireplace. i was gonna set it in my new sidewalk but i decided it was much to precious.
