Guys not sure why this news hasn't been officially announced to the ASX. From ERG's website http://www.erggroup.com/news/mediarel/index.cfm

Looks promising!!!

ERG Launches TP5000 Ticket Processor
ERG today launched the TP5000 Ticket Processor. The TP5000 Ticket Processor is designed for issuing paper tickets and processing contactless smart cards on buses and trams in public transport systems. Contactless smart cards need only be waved over a card reader and are rapidly replacing traditional magnetic tickets used for multiride tickets in public transport systems.

ERG has supplied and installed contactless smart card systems in Hong Kong, Rome, San Francisco and Singapore. Contactless smart card systems are planned for use throughout Australia, including Perth where tenders are currently being evaluated for the upgrade of the Transperth ticketing system to incorporate smart card technology.

The TP5000 Ticket Processor is based on ERG’s highly successful TP4000 Ticket Processor and incorporates the knowledge and expertise acquired over 20 years in the AFC industry. The TP5000 includes many of the proven components of the TP4000 such as the high-speed thermal printer, quick disconnect mounting cradle and durable plastic mouldings. The TP5000 incorporates a larger graphical display for ease of operation by the driver, and a Motorola Coldfire® microprocessor for faster transaction processing. The design and development of the TP5000 has been undertaken at ERG’s Research and Development Centre in Perth, Western Australia.

In addition to processing smart cards, the TP5000 incorporates a GPS (Global Positioning System) which facilitates automatic fare calculations based on the position and distance traveled. An in-built Wireless Local Area Network system automatically transfers data from the bus to the depot computer system when the bus returns to the depot.

Mr Glyn Denison, ERG’s Director New Business Development, said: “The TP5000 offers transport operators state-of-the-art technology for implementation of a world-class smart card based ticketing system without the risk of trying unproven technology. The release of TP5000 ensures ERG maintains its position as the world leader in the industry.”

ERG has already received orders for in excess of 2,700 TP5000s for projects in Europe, the largest being 2,000 units for Västtrafik AB in Sweden. Västtrafik AB is responsible for public transport in the county of Västra Götaland. Västra Götaland comprises 49 local authorities, including Gothenburg, with a total population of 1.5 million. The Västtrafik system manages 600,000 trips each day on 1,500 buses, 220 trams, 50 trains and 32 ferries. The system will enable cardholders to use their cards on all forms of transport including buses, trains, trams and ferries.

Mr Leif Blomqvist, Chairman of the Board for Västtrafik, said: “I am very pleased that our passengers will have a common system where it will be easy and simple to travel with the same ticket all over Västra Götaland.”

The delivery of 250 units for Västtrafik AB is due to take place in March. The TP5000 is being manufactured Western Australia.
