As it states on the 16/8/2001 in relation NRMA part extract."Smartcard applications for NRMA members will co-exist with other applications. For example, we envisage NRMA members will be able to use their NRMA card to access NRMA's range of products and services as well as pay for public transport, parking, and motorway tolls once the Government's transport system comes on line. Peter Fogarty has mentioned in the company announcement section and in the press that negotiations have been made and are ongoing in relation to updating it. Since the Melbourne Settlement. The Minister for Transport in Victoria Mr Batchelor had this to say. (below extracts from Victorian Gov pdf file) Friday, 1 November 2002 -------------------------- "As a result of our negotiations with OneLink, the operational performance of Melbourne’s ticket machines has increased from 72 per cent last year to 92 per cent today." -------------------------- Mr Batchelor said the Bracks Government has been working to identify the right option to replace Melbourne’s ticketing system when the current contract expires in 2007."Passengers can visit the concourse at Flinders Street Station to try for themselves ticketing equipment already in use in cities such as Hong Kong and London," he said. "Putting a new ticketing system in place will take four to five years, as the process will involve passenger feedback, tendering, contract negotiation, prototype and software development, testing and roll out across the network. The display will be staffed between 2pm and 7pm, seven days per week, and visitors are encouraged to ask questions about the systems on show. Mr Batchelor said rolling out a new ticketing system for a major city like Melbourne is a large and complex project with many stakeholders. "We’re planning now for 2007 – and offering everyone a chance to use what could be the future of public transport ticketing for Melbourne and tell us what they want from a ticketing system.
