| Subject: I agree that 501(c)4 and 501(c)3 orgs are different types of non-profits, but I urge you to go to guidestar.org and do a search of "Miss California Pageant Inc." Guidestar is a google for non-profits and allows you to see tax filings (form 990) for non-profit organizations. Miss California does not come up in any of these searches. If it were a 501(c)4, you would be able to see their Form 990 (since their gross receipts is over $50,000 annually). If they were a 501(c)4, you would see the form and a box would be checked classifying it as 501(c)4. There is no form for Miss California. There is a form 990 available for Scholarship Associates, but we (contestant supporters and advertisers) don't pay into that organization so we don't get to deduct anything. | |

Not all non profits are created equal, there are very different rules for these two designations but they are both non profit organizations. If you are interested in the differences here is an exhaustive list.http://nonprofit.about.com/od/becomingtaxexempt/a/nonprofittypes.htm" on 06:55:09 01/18/14 Sat [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
