Crystal was named one of 5 finalists for the newly created STEM Scholarships at Miss America. The finalists were announced at the welcome ceremony today along with the Quality of Life finalists. The STEM scholarships are for contestants who plan a career in a STEM-related field. Two of the five finalists will receive $5,000 scholarships on Thursday when the winners are announced, along with the Quality of Life winners.

The STEM Award finalists are Crystal (who plans to start her own technology company), Miss Mississippi Chelsea Rick (who plans to become a neurologist specializing in pain management), Miss Nevada DIana Sweeney (who plans to become a college math professor), Miss Rhode Island Jessica Marfeo (who plans to become head of the Rhode Island Dept. of Health) and Miss South Dakota Tessa Dee (who plans to earn a masters degree in Kinesiology.)
