Echoe was so sweet at Miss California! She was always willing to help other girls and was just a joy to be around. I really loved getting to know her and hearing about all of the cool things she has accomplished, and you can bet she will be doing many more amazing things in the future. We share a bond that is the sisterhood that this organization creates based off of its ideals and standards. We are all women of integrity and character, each with our own personality and special features that make beautiful. We are the future faces of this organization, and a representation of what it stands for. In interviews, we are almost always asked about "bullying," and what can be done to stop it from happening. We are the role models to girls nationwide who have been a victim of bullying, and refuse to be bystanders. It is with this that we must voice our concerns for the nature of posts in this message board. As modern American women we value our freedom of speech and respect that of others just as highly. However, we ask you to "think before you post" for the sake of maintaining the integrity of the Miss America Organization. We appreciate the support that this state has, which is evident by the passion you all convey in your posts. We love you because we are your daughters, friends, titleholders, or because we see what great things this organization can do for all who are involved. We do not want to see your support waver, nor do we want to see the negative repercussions of heated posts. We ask that you please just consider this before you write. In all my years I've never known a class of contestants who are so bonded and strong and actually like each other, no matter how they ranked at finals. Notice in the past few weeks how little bullying, mean comments, and hate have showed up on this message board? You truly have done something special here. You are here "speaking" for those who can't or are too scared to. By posting your #60daysoflove posts, it reinforces what this organization is all about: uplifting your fellow competitors so that they may compete to the best of their ability and become better people through each other and the friendships they've been so lucky to form. I hope that each contestant in every state takes a page out of your books and tries to bring this revolution upon their respective state message boards. Imagine if we lived in a pageant world where young women competing for the title of Miss State or even Miss America can come and get advice, uplifting messages, encouragement, praise, and love. Thank you all for making that a possibility. You have given me and many others hope that this world we love so much can rid itself of the hate it has been recently infected with. Thank you, Taylor for your support! The girls in the class of 2013 really bonded well and we all hate to see others bash our dear friends just because they can hide behind the keys of a message board. We appreciate you spreading the word of our story and our efforts to put an end to bullying! We hope that others can learn from our effort to spread the love and make the message boards a safer place. As contestants, we try to stay away from here, but like a moth to the flame we are always drawn back here. 1) A Miss California alumnae fund soliciting donations from former contestants, including a formers reception and/or lunch during pageant week. In Washington, former Miss WA's have their own organization, independent of the state pageant org., which holds a fund raiser during pageant week, and other activities, and contributes thousands of dollars in scholarships and additional prizes to the new Miss WA every years. 2) An active program soliciting corporate scholarship donors - e.g., corporations like Wells Fargo, the major public utilities, Clorox, Levi Strauss, Macy's, Disney, Silicon Valley firms. This would require a volunteer to coordinate the whole thing, and willing formers (Miis CAs and local titleholders) to make personal presentations to the corporate philanthropy people at these companies. For these companies, the economy is not as "down" as people think, or as you may be experiencing with local businesses. I have a few other ideas, but those are two of the main ones. If it were a 501(c)4, you would be able to see their Form 990 (since their gross receipts is over $50,000 annually). If they were a 501(c)4, you would see the form and a box would be checked classifying it as 501(c)4. There is no form for Miss California. There is a form 990 available for Scholarship Associates, but we (contestant supporters and advertisers) don't pay into that organization so we don't get to deduct anything.
