Two of the last 4 Misses America came from Alpha and both were early in the line up. It is a fallacy that going first or toward the beginning hurts a contestant's chances. Winners come from all over the line up yet there appears to be a slight advantage to going early. My guess is that a girl that is toward the beginning is less likely to get trumped by a stronger contestant ahead of her. Alabama had its strongest track record at Miss America when the contestants were presented alphabetically by title to the judges.
