| [> [> Subject: I was just in Santa Cruz for the past three days and it was so amazing to see how many restaurants had pictures of the former Miss California contestants. There is Miss California history everywhere! I was talking to the owner of one of the restaurants and I told him I was a local director and he said "I wish Miss California was still here". There was so much to do and staying at the Dream Inn was a dream. I took some pictures but I do not know how to post them on this board. | |

Date Posted: 07:49:59 06/14/13 Fri I too agree Miss California should go back to Santa Cruz. Fresno is so boring and Santa Cruz has so many more fun and exciting things to do. Sadly, doubt that will ever happen with Bob and Linda and the rest of the Miss California dictators. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
| [> [> [> [> Subject: Unfortunately, Santa Cruz was less than welcoming toward the end of the Miss California days and it was a hostile time for the contestants. It may have changed, but even when the Miss Santa Cruz County Organization ran their program a few years ago, they had to hold the swimsuit portion of the pageant behind closed doors before the pageant started. Sad, but true. I would love to see the pageant move elsewhere, but Fresno is welcoming to the program and the contestants. | |

| [> [> [> [> [> Subject: I was told Bob was awarded the Miss California franchise under the condition that he move the pageant out of Santa Cruz. The protests were taking on a violent vibe which escalated each year and required significant police presence. When the feminists followed MCO to San Diego, it was moved to Fresno. It appears even the feminists won't endure Fresno for their cause since they have not followed us there.. lol... I would not be surprised if that is a signifacant factor in choosing to keep the pageant there. | |

Date Posted: 10:04:43 06/14/13 Fri I'm sure there are contracts with the Saroyan and the Radisson that extend for a few more years into the future. The good news is that time can be used to explore other options before renewing with Fresno venues. But you have to consider whether the city has a theater large enough to accommodate a production the size of Miss CA (100+ contestants, as well as dancers on stage), plus backstage dressing and eating areas, hotel rooms to accommodate contestants, volunteers, family members, friends and pageant fans, a convention & visitors bureau that would welcome the pageant and help make it financially worthwhile to move. I'm no huge fan of Fresno and would love to see the pageant in a city with a better climate, for one thing. I suspect Bob would be open to considering other cities if there was a group of people who approached him and volunteered to be a search committee. They would probably have to suggest signing a non-disclosure agreement so Bob could share financial details of the arrangements he has in Fresno so they would understand the kind of deal they would have to match or beat from another city. It's a big job and one or two people probably couldn't handle it all, unless they were retired and had few other commitments. But a group of 4-5 that included at least one person with experience in professional theater production would probably work very well. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

| [> Subject: Nothing will happen until you try. It's called an RFP, I think Miss CA is going to start losing franchises since Fresno has become NOT welcoming as in the beginning. Every year we have issues with the Host hotel, Host hotel means they "host" it. You can get a better deal on hotel.com for pricing then going through the Miss CA group. I'm sure that Bob is well taken care of but the rest of us it's just a hotel. | |
