] Date Posted: 09:24:18 06/15/13 Sat In reply to: From the California Class of 2013 's message, "A tribute to our Miss California 2012 -- Leah Cecil" on 09:01:40 06/15/13 Sat I have been following her posts everyday since she's been crowned, even through that disaster of a Miss America experience (I think more of a disaster for us as viewers to have to sit through those ridiculous top 10 choices - WTF has happened to MA? I think Leah was set up and robbed now that more details have been told, but that's a deadbeat topic, nevertheless true). In past years, I was never able to know about the Miss CA we were given other than what the website posted on her bio. She never reached out to us; she kept to herself; never socially mixed with us; kept aloof in her "Queendom" almost trying to avoid us unless she HAD to by Bob's directive. This was especially felt by us last year, which I beg the moderator to not delete this just because it is a comment regarding Noelle. Everyone has different gifts and abilities, I get that. Its just how many of us who have been around awhile feel as a tribute to Leah. Its SO different this year! But we give credit to Arianna, who stepped up to loan Leah her own crown after Leah's crown was stolen, and Kristy, Jacki, Melissa who have regularly posted high praises to Leah during her year and met up with her for dinner in NYC -- its formers like this who set the bar for a legacy of class, poise, and elegance we can all be proud of and want to be part of and I KNOW that Leah will be as supportive to her successors. We contestants have been WATCHING you formers! No one can say they don't know what Miss CA did this year. Leah has been generous to say the least on her reports about her year. She has had many adventures, more than any Miss CA in history, as last reported by Bob, and traveled the world more than any Miss America representative. She's been such an amazing example of what poise and attitude to conduct in every event she has been invited to and has looked beautiful everywhere she's gone. I'm grateful she brought in a car sponsor and has maintained the continual interest of the sponsors we already have. We might even get a private charter plane sponsor! I admire Leah's talent. Not only has she performed her harp at beds in the hospitals she hoped to visit but she also has sung the National Anthem at many events. We've been lucky to have such a multi-talented titleholder this year. Another highlight has been how she has organized the Duke of Edinberg awards. We all had the opportunity to go on high adventure on our own in order to win the awards offered but Leah organized and encouraged all of us to go together WITH HER! She could have stayed home and thought it was beneath her to go camping with the lowly of us contestants. After all, she didn't have to go because she already earned her medals but she slummed with us anyway, no makeup or pageant dress. In fact, she encouraged all of us to remember there were no judges up there so we weren't to bring any curling irons or eyelashes. Just come and have fun she said. It was fun to be with fellow contestants and not feel competitive against each other. We all got to know each other as fun and goofy girls! At orientation, instead of Leah sitting off to the side looking pristine and untouchable which is what we've been used to, Leah was prepping for a Social Media class she conducted for us all day and then spent her free time making videos of each of the contestants to post on YouTube. In the words she told us, "I just think its important for the world to see how amazing and beautiful the class of California 2013 is through my eyes". Who says that? Not any Miss CA I remember! Leah also gave an amazing speech to all of us girls. My ED said it was the best speech they ever heard a Miss CA give at orientation. It was real, informative, encouraging, and inspiring. Another amazing fact about Leah, she learned ALL of our names and went around the room knowing something about each of us. I also can't believe how talented she is in computer graphics. She not only designed her own ads in previous program books but volunteered to do others. I know that she designed the pages for the sponsors in this year's book and I can't wait to see them! I don't think we've ever done that for sponsors before but finally we have someone artistic to do that for us! I could tell more things she has taken the time to inspire in me personally but I think the most touching thing she has done for all of us was that last week she wrote and mailed EACH of us (all 61 of us!) a personal note with a handwritten message and a post encouraging us to do and be our personal best in Fresno and to appreciate the journey rather than how you finish the race. Don't get me wrong! I want her job! But this time around, because of Miss CA 2012 Leah Cecil, I anticipate this experience with greater peace and excitement. I'm glad Leah will be there WITH all of us girls next week. I look up to her and she will be remembered by many not just because she's so beautiful on the outside, but because Leah shared the abundance of beauty she has on the inside -- beauty which lasts beyond the hands of time and the true beauty which made a difference to all of us. Thank you Leah! [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
