gdz - great post

Explorer used to crash somewhat frequently and for some reason I haven't had that problem much with firefox.

It's perhaps half comparable to what used to be the copyright laws - the idea that the inventor makes money for a certain period of time, but then the work is released to the public for the benefit of society... As we all know, much research and ingenuity takes place a public universities, funded by the public and the students, that serves a higher purpose - to benefit society and the world at large. I don't know the history, but it appears as though more and more people and companies take advantage of the tax payer subsidized work and then turn aroudn and "privatize" the work and charge the public again. The "internets" is an example of a system largely created by the government and universities getting government support that some of the capitalist utopians would like to privatize to greater and greater degrees.

Yeah - We want to keep the goodwill to a minimum otherwise who are "we" going to make money from "our" product. I read somewhere that MS was trying to co-opt some important Linux people and transform it into "winux." It's like water as a public utility - why make it insanely affordable to everyone when you could privatize it and someone could make gazillions?

Bill & Melinda do/did some good things with their billions but the predatory and anti-entrepreneurial behavior of the Co. is just a bit too over the top capitalist for yours truly. Remember the big anti-trust cases against MS by netscape and a host of others just few years ago?

Not a snark question, but how many patches exist for microsquash users? Why is the platform so vulnerable?
