pjk says: As we all know, much research and ingenuity

But what about Research universities long involvement with industry to symbiotic benefit?
..of course the most commonly funded by industry is any commercially valuable innovations. pros and cons obviously... Over the past two decades there has been a huge increase in corporate funding of academic research....it used to be around 7 percent...but has really grown. I first realized this when researching US pharmaceutical woes....huge investments made by pharm industry to research and a lot of times very risky investments..not paying off for many years (remember Martha Stewart case?)(alshtouhg my memory has faded, this may have been research conducted via industry itself, skimming scientists from previous academic posts). Anyway, corporate funding of academic research is most heavily applied in medicine, biology, chemistry, and engineering.
