Subject: Is control a bad thing?

Inspired by the post below I would like to know what you think of trying to not lose control.

For me it always felt extremely uncomfortable to lose control. Thatīs why I never was into drugs, because I hated the description of others how they lost control over themselves. It scares me! Years later I smoked some pot because I had physical pain beyond hell and someone told me it would help. I was desperate enough to try. I hated what the stuff did to me! I considered to go to a doctor to get rid of the symptoms of heatwaves throughout my body, a pounding heart, and other unpleasant feelings, haha. It didnīt help on the pain either, other than being distracted by the symptoms of the drug.*g*

Getting hypnotized is right up there. I would never give it a try. Doing silly things because someone took over my mind? No thanks!*lol*

How do you feel about that? And is too much control protective, or a bad thing? When is it wise to give up control, and how to do that?

[> I'm using CD's for weight loss/body image. I'm exercising 4x a week & am feeling better about myself already. Being hypnotised isn't about control. It works through deep relaxation/meditation/visualization. It is giving me a new perspective on what I can do through the power of suggestion. I still hear and feel what's going on around me & have my full mental/physical abilities about me at all times. I do not view this as losing control at all. Nobody is taking over your mind at any time & it's not like those TV shows where they have an audience member "go under" & bark like a dog or something. It's more akin to positive reinforcement through deep relaxation. I do think that alot of people have control issues. I think it has more to do with a fear of the unknown or in others maybe selfishness or a myriad of other deep rooted issues within themselves. My control issue is doing everything myself because I'm afraid it won't get done if I don't . I'm working on that one ; ) -- Lori, 12:52:08 08/10/03 Sun

[> Thot' some more about the hypnosis stuff throughout the day. I know several people that have quit smoking through hypnosis where nothing else worked. Done also by guided meditation/visualization while in a deep relaxive state. I think that there is something deep inside our psyche that prevents us from doing something bad or something we truly don't want to do while we're in this state. If one of these tapes, for example were to suggest I go out and murder somebody, I know I wouldn't do it because that part of me that knows right from wrong would stop me first. Now the question I haven't found an answer to is everyones "part" in their psyche on the same level. Would some people actually be more suseptable to doing wrong to others? Does that have to do with totally trusting yourself then? I'll do some more research... -- Lori, 20:31:08 08/10/03 Sun

[> Well, There is a lot to say about this so come inside please===> -- Jeannine, 23:58:13 08/10/03 Sun

I think control over ones self is mostly a good thing. BUt as with anything, people do go over board. Some people are obsesssive compulsive and though they have control, they are stuck in that. Others have to control everyone to a point of exhaustion. Or if they arent in control they make life miserable for everyone. That to me is very sick...even their children are totally controled. I guess it all comes down to fear.Everyone has some issue, maybe it is even past life related, i.e. that in the last life you had no control, being a woman in the Victorian times say, so now you are making up for that. I personally (and I think with age it happens) would like more control over my emotions. My EX was/is very controling but in a passive way if that makes sense, he bought the clothes he thought I should wear, bought me make-up kits, he would have these little talks with me about my behavior/emotions. After 8 years I FINALLY woke up and got the hell out of there. My current DH thinks he can use guilt to control me, like his mother does to him, I dont fall for that crap, but he does wear on me so I usually give in but I let him know that your guilt is not the reason, I am sick of arguing with you. HIS EX is a control FREAK. If it is NOT her way than it is NO WAY. She doesnt control me and therefore hates me...my DH she has by the balls.I think a great amount of control is fear related simply. Some is good for every person. There are choices to make and life to live, too much control is no fun. Sexually say, some people cant let go enough to enjoy that! Like Bree in the books. Some kids I used to teach, couldnt let go enough to go to the bathroom, it was their way of controling their world. That is what Anorexia is about too. Bad things can happen with extremes!

GLAD to hear Lori that the tapes are working!!

[> I'd love to be hypnotized (sp?) sometime, to do a past life regression or to get over this horrible fear I have of the dentist, I get panic attacks and everything when I sit down in that chair. *shudder* So in a responsible environment I am ok with it. On the other hand, I don't want to lose control of myself through drugs or medications, that would completely freak me out! -- Linda, 11:14:21 08/12/03 Tue

[> Oh I know what you mean about the dentist. My sister and I were abused by our dentist and his assistants. If we dared to cry or anything they would hold us down forceably and yell at us all the time. It's definately carried over into our adult lives and they have to give me novacaine, gas and they might as well just knock me out with a rubber mallet. No fun! I should check to see if there are any hypnosis tapes out there for fear of the dentist. I'll let you know ; ) I'd love to have a past life regression done too. I'm hoping this fall around my birthday maybe. -- Lori, 18:09:31 08/13/03 Wed

[> [> OMG Lori, that's insane!! I suppose that you don't find the dentist in Little Shop of Horrors to be very amusing, eh? I am sure that you would get great benefit from dealing with that trauma directly, rather than just hypnotizing yourself to not fear a dentist. The fear will most likely take care of itself once you deal with the cellular memories of such a truama. yikes. I can't imagine. Anyways, past life regressions are fun and oh so interesting. Hope you get the chance to have one. What a cool birthday gift that would be. -- Lissa, 13:01:47 08/15/03 Fri
