Subject: Candles!

Ok, on a completely light note I thought I'd post a little bit about candles. First off, I love them! I'm not one of those that will buy a candle and have it sit on a table just to look pretty (although that is nice too!), I like to burn them so I end up buying a lot. Plus I light many of them when I meditiate, they are very powerful spiritually for me. In my favorite Spiritual/Health Food store they had these mini candles and candle holders - the holders are pewter and come in all sorts of themes. I picked a moon and stars, a castle and a wizard, they are just precious. Inside each holder came a fold out card with this bit of info. I think I will give candles as gifts this Christmas and include one of these cards with each candle I send and chose the candle color according to the person I've chosen to receive the gift.

Candles
Candles in various forms have been used by people since the beginning of time to bring light to darkness. They are a contained form of the element of fire which is wisdom. Candles symbolize all things slow and steady. Lit candles give us a glimpse of the radiant parts of our being.

YELLOW - Yellow is the color of sunlight. It is the color of intuition. Yellow is the color of pure goodness.

WHITE - White is the color of simplicity. The color of spiritual authority. White is the color analogous with purification of the soul.

BLUE - Blue is the color of spirituality, relaxation, satisfaction and introspection. Blue is the color that reminds us to look skyward.

BLACK - Black is the color of the shadow, intuition, maturity, wisdom, the presence of all colors. Black is the color of the night, the color you go into when you step into the shadow part of your nature.

GREEN - Green is the predominant color of the Earth. It is the rich, watery parts of our own nature. It is the color of coming alive, new growth, new beginnings.

PALE GREEN - Pale Green represents renewal.

JADE GREEN - Jade Green represents wisdom.

ORANGE - Orange is the color of harvest. The color orange is an indication of our maturity. It symbolizes what we may harvest.

PURPLE - VIOLET - LAVENDER - Purple, Violet and Lavender are all colors that represent flamboyance in our culture. Purple is the color that helps us to understand the important of magic and ceremony in our lives. Purple is a gift of magic.

RED - Red is the color associated with fire. It is the color of warmth. Red is an action color, the color of leadership.

ROSE - Rose is the color allied with the quality of love. It is the color most commonly tied to romance and healing.

PINK - Pink is the color of purity. It is also the color of unconditional love. Pink represents a healing of the feminine.

It's all very sweet and interesting! Some of the color representations are slightly different than what I've read before. I always considered Purple the color of spirituality and Blue or Green healing colors. This is the first I've seen Rose described this way. But I suppose whatever each color speaks to you is what it will personally represent for each one of us. It will be fun picking out candles for friends and family this year and sending this list along so they can see why I chose each one.

Oh and I've never liked Orange, I wonder what that says about me? LOL

Hugs!

Linda

[> My DH and I use candles ALL the time. I spend so much money on them it's ridiculous hahahahahahaha! I use them for all different things but I buy really good ones when I do my ceremonies/ritual work. I love the way they make a room look - especially at night and we have a ton of them in our bedroom *wink*. I love their smell and the meanings behind all the colors. This is a nice list. I've read many different meanings too but you said it perfectly when you said it's what the colors mean to the actual person. I tried my hand at making candles but I always have trouble with the wicks being crooked and I'm not very good at "topping them off" correctly. -- Lori, 18:12:17 08/30/03 Sat

[> I am one that likes to look at them and smell them, but I dont like to burn them! Well, around Christmas I do, and I started burning one when I write on the computer for divine help, as DG does! Also, come inside cuz I just saw this last night.... -- Jeannine, 00:56:21 08/31/03 Sun

Candle Therapy, merging psychology and ceremony

Candle ceremony is one of the oldest and strongest ways to connect with heaven. Ceremony of any kind helps us to focus on our goals and to activate the vibrations of Divine Will that guides us on our intended path.

Whatever you truly long for...love, health, prosperity or simply joy, manifest your heart’s desire through candle ceremony!

After assessing your goals and purpose, you will learn how to select the perfect color candle for your intention and how to carve ancient rune symbols. You will also learn how to “dress” your candle with magical herbs, oils and glitter. And finally, learn how to create your sacred space or alter and how specific days of the week and moon phases influence the power of your ceremony.

[> Oh I love candles, the warm light they spread, the scents... I sometimes use them to replace a fire (living in appt. right now). The colours definitely mean different things to different people, but like anything you need only find the meaning that is right for you. I used to make my own beeswax candles with parafin thrown in to add to the burning time. Maybe one day I can do that again. :) -- John Scott, 06:42:52 08/31/03 Sun

[> New meanings of the colors, indeed, but they do make sense. I LOVE candles as well. And you know what, I respect them. Sounds weird, but I´ve been always afraid of fire. (maybe I was burned as a witch in a past life?*g*) It´s destructive and can do so much harm. Having it in my home on a table, only a single flame which behaves nicely, is like having tamed the power of it, more than that, it`s like the spirit of the fire gives me the honor to enjoy its beauty without any harm. Maybe this is why it has been used for rituals for ages, because people respected the restrained power it holds, using that power for their intentions. -- Martina, 06:51:59 08/31/03 Sun

[> I find a burn a lot more candles in the winter months than the summer months, perhaps this is due to lack of natural light at this time of year? I love them (except the number of them that were on my birthday cake a few days ago!). Sometimes I will even turn the lights out in the house and light a bunch of candles so there is nothing but candelight illuminating the place. It brings about a sense of calm and peace...and with two busy kids, anything that can foster a sense of peace and calmness is much appreciated! -- Brenda, 16:54:22 09/01/03 Mon
