Subject: Looks like big gaps in time between posts

Hello to all... I'm having a very quiet Friday at work so I checked out Lallybroch to see about this new book of DG's and started reading some old posts (the green eggs and ham) and then thought I'd come see who's here and it doesn't look like anyone visits on a regular basis anymore. Did everyone move to another site or has life just become less tolerant of us being at the computer as much as before? You can only let things slide for so long before it all catches up.

I was surprised to see my gate wallpaper on the screen when I showed up... made me feel like I came home to gramma's house and my old drawings were up on her wall. Remember when we started that and everyone's talents surfaced and were shared our goodies. For me it was digging in the drawers and finding all the old "me" stuff, realizing how little I did of the things I loved doing nowadays (still don't do diddly except gardening). Always think... I should try that again. Never do. No time, no quiet place to call my own... too many boys in my life messing up my space.

Rundown on the family - oldest Jamie is still in the Air Force, heading to Japan the end of this month for 3 months and then to Qatar for 4 months. His home base is Westover AFB in Massachusetts so we've been seeing quite a bit of him. Not looking forward to another long absence especially to the middle east.

Daniel my middle son is in college for engineering. Doing well, aced his exams this month. He's working at a pet store part-time and borrowing way too much money from me to live in the style he'd like to be accustomed to.

David, my youngest just got his driver's permit. Yikes. This happened on the heels of two of his good friends being killed two weekends ago in a tragic/stupid car crash (vs. tree, tree still stands, scarred and worn... they are in heaven). Very sad for my son, their funerals were both on the same day, following each other. This was my son's first funeral. He was crying constantly, but funny how after the funeral he was smiling. He said it helped to hear the words, be with his friends, see that everyone was coping as best they could. This will have an impact on his "decisions" and "choices" forever.

I'm still working at an engineering firm and the other half of my life is helping my boyfriend Tom build our new house (still). We started in February of 2004 and it looks like next month we will move in. Waiting for the kitchen to be delivered. The house is great, the yard is wonderful and my fish pond is almost complete. The fish (koi) overwintered in it and all made it except one. It was a horrible winter here in RI.

Remember my friend in California? He has been hospitalized and recovering now from a tumor in his liver. I feel like I'm getting the "cheery" version of what's happening. If everyone could just say a quick prayer for his recovery. I couldn't imagine my life without him in the world (way in the background). The once upon a time dream that we women tend to never forget.

Life is good. Spring has sprung. I'm happy and broke and healthy. How bout you???

[> Thanks for the update, Jennifer! Happy and broke and healthy here too! *G* Wow, your boys have grown up, eh? Where did the time go??? Great news about your house! Post pics when all is done, will ya? Hope to see you here more often! ;) Seems like everybody is busy with other things these days. -- Martina, 13:48:55 05/14/05 Sat

[> [> Hi Martina. How are JS, your daughter (Sinja??) and Antje doing? I can't believe you're in the Yukon... can the man do anything typical? Like bring his bride back to Cincinnatti Ohio or Toronto, Canada... hope you have your woolies close at hand year round. Of course I haven't put my woolies away yet. -- Jennifer, 11:39:51 06/02/05 Thu

[> [> [> Hahahaha! Oh well, we are not staying! My untypical husband has decided he liked Germany better! So back we go by the end of the month.*g* I'm happy to see my family again soon! More inside>>>> -- Martina, 14:26:35 06/03/05 Fri

Canada has been a big adventure for me! And Sinja finished highschool here, tomorrow is her prom! She wants to study geology in Germany, and the diploma will help with that. Her english is excellent now, which is also a great asset in Europe, where english is more and more demanded in business.

JS got to see the country differences very clearly now, and he thinks he has better job chances in Germany. The technical development is a bit farther over there, especially in his field. In the Yukon he has to fix radios from the last world war.*g* In short: he feels bored. He likes using the latest technologies, and they just don't use them up here, and some not even in whole Canada.

That's only one of his reasons. Another one is that Sinja doesn't want to live here (too boring for teenagers*g*. Many other things, small ones and big ones, made us decide to go back. I like it here (not necessarily the f'ing cold Yukon, but Canada in general), and I'm not looking forward to going back to the same old same old. But I'm the only one with that opinion, so I was overruled.*g*

[> Hi Jennifer!!! For me, it is life that doesn't allow me the time at the computer that it once did. But, like you, when I do check in, it is like going home again. Somehow, I just am not willing to allow the board to die. I've formed too many loves here. It sounds like life is going well for you. It is for me, too. Some bumps in the road, but all in all, I am thankful. So far, we have survived half our teenagers. The second half is proving as challenging as the first half, but in a different way. We launch our third child from high school next month, and goodness only knows what will happen to the world!!! She is choosing to postpone college (a good idea..) and wants to travel to Australia (another good idea) but so far hasn't any job either here to gather the money to go or there to support herself when she arrives. Ah, well....it will all work out the way it should one way or the other. Tirzah did the same thing when she graduated and is now happily and successfully in nursing school. -- Betsy, 12:03:14 05/16/05 Mon

[> Wow Jenn how could your boys have grown so I'm glad to hear Jamie is not in Iraq I was wondering. Things are ok here happy broke and healthy seems to be the way but what the hey. I just bought tickets form myself mt kids and Alex's 2 best friends to go to California for 6 days in June to see Gary and my mothers family is having a reunion over 60 people I can't wait to actually get to see relatives and have it NOT be a funeral. Isn't it odd how that happens in life you only seem to run into the cousins and such and weddings and funerals so this will be big fun. I grew up in the same town with lots of my cousins where my kids don't even live in the same state so they don't have the same kind of bond I think we did. Oh well I'm not moving back. I think of you every year at christmas when i hang my shell ornaments you painted us.Hey Bets and Martina and all Love you all....come visit sometime. -- Reenie, 15:11:41 05/19/05 Thu

[> [> Hey Reenie and Betsy - waving madly. I'm glad you still hang the ornaments on your tree Reenie. Have fun in CA with the kids. Wear sunblock! Betsy I still have my Spirit World oil sample you made for the Boston Gathering. I sniff it all the time. -- Jennifer, 11:44:36 06/02/05 Thu

[> I was just thinking about y'all. Love the jobs - finally can't complain about poorly run schools! Marriage is an adjustment -- who knew? And I'm such a compliant little wife (NOT) that I'm sure Chuck's saying the same thing. We'd do it again tomorrow! The boys are growing like crazy (and smelling like hormones on legs) Dylan, the little one, is still playing premier level soccer, so our weekends are shot most of the year. Kyle becomes a teenager next month and is almost as tall as I am. AJ continues to work hard on his issues, and is making some progress. I've had some health problems this year - a little borderline hypertension...some abnormal blood work that's got me into hematology/oncology in June...keep your fingers crossed. Everything else is normal, and I feel great -- just this ONE test and everyone is freaked. (especially me!) The gardens are coming together, the house is coming together, and life - for the most part - is better than it's been in years. -- Michelle, 11:14:35 05/20/05 Fri

[> Wow! How the years pass! Glad to hear from everyone. I passed 70 over a year ago and am still going strong - hernia op soon, but no big deal. Going back to Scotland next September. I suspect that will be my last. I have other places I want to revisit while I'm fit to do so. Finally met Isabel in person in Florida this February. I'll look in more often after this. -- Ron, 23:19:14 05/22/05 Sun

[> Hi Jennifer, oh my gosh, it's wonderful reading you, it brings back so many memories of how we all shared this forum together! I feel like I travelled the road since... England, California, NJ and now Florida... Kids are growing for us all, I read your posts and Reenie wow! I can't forget that beautiful day at the beach! Ron I'm so glad we finally met in person, you know you are welcome anytime you want a bit more of Florida weather! I miss seeing you all, reading you here is almost like a class reunion, it feels good and makes me want more... 'g' -- Isabelle, 17:49:53 05/23/05 Mon

[> [> I know what you mean... there are no more nights of staring (with a goofy grin on my face) at the computer screen and the boys saying "she's on with those "book" people (the DG craze). It was nice to check in and see the familiar names... however, there are several missing. Has anyone seen/heard from Viive, Melissa, - I see Lissa checked in not too long ago. Terrible how life tends to get so busy that the effort it takes to do something so simple as check in and say hi each day seems so incredibly hard to do... there is no energy to even wash your face at the end of the day... and then you wake up with the racoon eyes and say , who the hell is that in the mirror... but I digress... -- Jennifer, 11:54:06 06/02/05 Thu

[> Footnote to my above post - the operation is over and I will recuperate gradually over the next 4 to 6 weeks. I have to be very careful not to stretch the midsection or I will get a very sharp pain. -- Ron, 05:27:59 05/27/05 Fri

[> [> Hi Ron! Glad to hear you are doing fine! How did you manage to get a surgery appt. in this country, while you are still alive?*LOL* It's pretty hard to find a doctor here in the first place, and then they let people wait and wait and wait... what's up with that? Oh well, maybe that's just one of those Yukon things.*g* Only 30000 people in the whole territory, but I'm guessing only 3 doctors in total. ;) -- Martina, 12:26:49 05/30/05 Mon

[> [> [> Let's see - how long did I wait? I saw the surgeon in early March, told him I wanted the repair done and that I was free from other obligations from May 9 on. He checked and told me May 26 in about 5 minutes. Yes, the shortage of doctors everywhere in Canada is a problem, but much more so in isolated areas like the Yukon. My family doctor, a young lady, could not give me a pre-operation check since she went on maternity leave April 1. She couldn't find anyone to take over her practice, so had to close it down until the fall. -- Ron, 06:21:00 06/02/05 Thu

[> [> [> [> That's good news about the surgery Ron, does this mean no piddling around in your train gardens this spring? -- Jennifer, 11:36:46 06/02/05 Thu

[> [> [> [> [> I don't know about "piddling around" LOL, but I won't likely feel like getting down on my hands and knees for another week or two to starighten up track after the ravages of winter. Stitches out today! I was out to a meeting last night. This is going very well! -- Ron, 04:10:03 06/03/05 Fri

[> [> [> [> [> [> Very good for you Ron! Can't figure out that doctor problem here. They do earn a lot here too, just like anywhere else. From Germany I'm used to getting things done almost immediately. Big surgeries - next week, that type of thing.*lol* Oh well, on the other hand some other things go faster in Canada. -- Martina, 14:15:35 06/03/05 Fri
