Subject: Fans and the Window !

Been getting a lot of pop-up clips on my phone this past week of other Clubs’ Fans bemoaning the lack of activity , whether in relation to ‘sealing deals ‘ with long term targets or credible rumour ‘back up’. The general consensus seems to be that many ( though not all) of the ‘elite ‘ have wasted no time in securing their coveted players . But for some eg Arsenal , the frustration continues and seems to be linked with questions of either Manager and /or Hierarchy . Obviously context needs to be taken into account with regards to who your closest competitors and rivals are likely to be . Also History of how your Club and it’s Owners have conducted previous windows and in many cases dealt with the adversity of having your top players poached ; positive examples of which are Brighton, Bournemouth and even Brentford . Then we come to Us, traditionally known for conducting business late (
; last Summer apart tbf. Throw in other factors the main one of which is of course how much does your squad need strengthening , and ( esp in our case ) the annual ‘warnings’ by the Manager of the dangers of ‘standing still’. Again with regards to Us , we are told of an ‘Ambitious Plan’ of which the Board are aware . So where might you stand albeit at this early stage ? The sensible approach would be to sit back, relax and take things as they come. But of course that is something most Football Fans ( myself certainly included ) , find very difficult to do !

It’s holiday season for most football mangers & backroom staff ….and most football club personnel . Once pre season starts and everyone returns things start happening. Mangers turn there phones off during there only 2/3 week holiday of the year. Relax enjoy the sunshine …. I believe teams are waiting until the 30th of June as that is when they can close the accounts from last year and start on this year’s accounts . PSR needs binning complete farce sell a women’s team and car parks and you don’t fall foul of it . One factor not mentioned is that this is world cup year. Whoever is signed and has half a chance of going will, I assume, be looking to start games. Makes it a tougher task for our manager to fit these players in with what is a pretty settled starting 11, albeit right back, a wide man and a centre forward. Ideally I'd like us to get these positions sorted then go all out for the return of Paulinha. It makes sense to get these in asap but as mentioned that doesn't seem to be the way we do things. - If the 'issue' was when the window closes, our signing stats would be average. But they aren't. We are (until last season) consistently slower than the rest of the division at signing players. Until last season our average signing was 8 days after the divisional average. Thats a week extra pre season, per player, on average that other clubs are getting with their signings.
