Subject: One factor not mentioned is that this is world cup year. Whoever is signed and has half a chance of going will, I assume, be looking to start games. Makes it a tougher task for our manager to fit these players in with what is a pretty settled starting 11, albeit right back, a wide man and a centre forward. Ideally I'd like us to get these positions sorted then go all out for the return of Paulinha. It makes sense to get these in asap but as mentioned that doesn't seem to be the way we do things.

Replies:

  • More drivel on Hammy End bemoaning our club's annual late signings... instead of addressing the real issue of clsing the window at the end of August when most deals happen due to greedy agents... (NT) -- Rupert, Friday, June 20, 09:47:04am (5ec14d8b.skybroadband.com/94.193.77.139)
  • If the 'issue' was when the window closes, our signing stats would be average. But they aren't. We are (until last season) consistently slower than the rest of the division at signing players. Until last season our average signing was 8 days after the divisional average. Thats a week extra pre season, per player, on average that other clubs are getting with their signings. Its a valid criticism (NT) -- Same Old Story, Friday, June 20, 02:12:50pm (NoHost/84.65.41.50)
