I like it as a third striker who we hope stays fit and replaces Raul at the end of the season when his contract runs. As Gary says, his style of play is perfect for us. Free transfer = big signing on fee and wages typically. Our 3rd forward needs to be a multi position player really, just doesn’t make sense to have 3 players who only play one position when we’ll only ever play one of them, one would often not even make match day squad. In Raul we have the old head, I think a fresh, youngster who offers threat in behind and can play out wide as well. Not disagreeing. Been banging the versatile forward drum for a while and why I still don't like the Stansfield sale. But Marco repeatedly said he wants three strikers, and between Vini and then Broja it seems he wants them primarily as centre-forwards. Don't agree with that. But if that's where we're going Calvert-Lewin would be a superb player there. Not going to happen, of course, for the reasons the Beast says. - I’d imagine we sold Stansfield because we didn’t think he was good enough, if we thought he’d become a good prem CF and worth probs 40m then we’d have said no thanks. Let’s see how he goes, but hasn’t scored for U21s and I believe lacks a yard of pace to be the threat in behind. No point keeping someone due to his position if you don’t think he’s good enough, plus great sale for PSR rules.   - We're free to disagree with the team's reasoning. We scored 1 fewer goal than we did the prior 2 seasons while letting slip a big opportunity in the league & cups. As Ive said repeatedly I believe losing BDR then selling Stansfield was a big mistake. He has the exact profile we needed and still do. Flexible, smart, good movement and reading of the game (in a way that makes up for lack of killer speed, much like BDR). I don't believe his sale price makes up for that.     - Maybe he’ll get real good, but coaches who watch him deemed him probs won’t be a prem regular or we wouldn’t have sold him for 20m. Never scored for us, worked hard but but ineffective for U21s, would barely have played last season even with our injuries; fail to see what evidence says it was a mistake. There are loads with his profile, but you have to be good enough, BDR would barely have played too, he couldn’t get in Leic team. We need someone similar style but who’s good enough.       - BDR had the 4th most goal contributions in 23/24, 3rd most goals. What happened at Lei proves that opportunity and surroundings matter. Saying "others who see him day-to-day" know better" is just another way of saying "what's the point in having opinions" Alboy-style. And, of course, is irrelevant as others who "coached him day-to-day" (Brum) saw enough to spend a record sum on him.         No, it’d because we have barely seen him for FFC so how can you form much of an opinion, you’re comparing him to a solid prem player/scorer (BDR) based on no evidence. I watched him plenty in U21s, he has a lot of effort but didn’t score and didn’t really look like scoring, his replacement scored after 15 mins. I’m not saying he may not become good, but as it stands no evidence at a good level says he currently will, but it’s a small sample size.
