While Tristan massaged his back, Marz closed his eyes and tried to think of something positive. At first his thoughts turned to his old gang, recalling in vivid detail all the havoc they caused in Bizmar. Next, the street urchins came to his mind. He was quite pleased with himself for keeping one particular group of kids away from La Crot by teaching them to be self-sufficient. After finding them an abandoned building in which to live, he showed them how to run a few scams to acquire some money. He even bought a few of the older boys shoe shine kits and weapon polish then sent them off to beg for work at inns with a nicer clientele.

The urchins didn't get rich, but at least they made enough money to keep themselves fed. Marz provided them with clothing and toys occasionally; the items being part of the goods he and his gang stole from warehouses along the docks. When little Josh showed an interest in reading, Marz taught him the basics then swiped a couple of books from the city library so that the boy could continue his studies on his own. Now, Josh was learning the art of magecraft from Gideon, and although Marz didn't care for mages, he was happy to see the boy making something of himself.

Thinking of Gideon made him remember his visit to the plane of Hell to rescue Eremis' soul from the devil. He wasn't sure why Eremis traded his soul, but he went to help retrieve it basically as a favor to Kisa. A grin came to his face when he thought about the fiery redhead. They had shared a number of heated nights together in the bedroom. Kisa was the only person he had ever met that shared so many similarities with him. Her temper matched his own and her body healed as rapidly as his did. She was always ready for a romp in the sack since she also shared his huge appetite for sex. He wondered what she was up to nowadays then silently vowed to look her up when he got back to Bizmar.

Marz frowned when he felt Tristan remove his hands from his back. Had he somehow managed to read his mind, and gotten angry over his thoughts of Kisa? His eyes flew open, relief filling him when he saw that it was Erlic's entrance that had put an end to the massage.

When Erlic began to talk about exercises that needed to be done before moving on to the chakras, Marz sighed since he now expected to hear one of his sensai's long lectures. His lips broke into a smile when he learned he was actually going to get to do more than sit and listen to some complex speech.

Eagerly, he followed Erlic's instructions, working up a light sweat after ten minutes of jumping jacks. The exercise really got his heart pumping! He was ready for a little break in the action when Erlic told him to sit down, close his eyes, and breath deeply. The abrupt change from physical exertion to complete relaxation left him feeling a bit light-headed.

He focused on his sensai's words, contracting his muscles as tightly as possible before relaxing them. When he was suddenly plagued by a strange sensation, reminiscent of a hundred bugs crawling all over his skin, he fidgeted somewhat. Erlic's deep, soothing voice drew his attention once again, and he concentrated on trying to slow his breathing as he was told to do. After a moment, he could actually hear the constant beating of his heart and easily envisioned blood being pumped through his veins to vital organs.

"You can open you eyes," Erlic stated quietly. "Meditation is over."

Feeling a little dazed, Marz stared at this teacher. "That's it?" he asked.

He had a hard time comprehending what Erlic said next because his mind was clouded like it often was when he was awakened from a deep sleep. Once he was thinking clearly again, Erlic helped him to his feet, saying that he now had to follow Tristan's instructions. Marz grinned at the dragon then repeated the entire exercise with his assistance. Before he could fall into a deep trance he was brought out of his stupor by the sound of Erlic's voice again.

“Excellent Tristan,” his sensai said to the dragon. “Now I think I can leave the two of you alone. Just make sure that he practices this at least several times a day.”

When Erlic left the room, Marz turned to Tristan and yawned. "I feel really tired all of a sudden," he said while stretching his muscles. "Why don't we get some sleep? It's been a really long day!"

Marz stripped off his clothes, folding them into a neat pile on the table before moving to the washbasin. He took a quick sponge bath, washing away the fine sheen of sweat from his body. After drying himself off, he crawled into bed then beckoned Tristan to join him.
