“Perhaps we can continue this conversation,” Laurel added, not even looking over her shoulder as she strode out of the room, “When you are ready to actually converse with me.”

“Good night dear Laurel,” Erlic stated, although the druid would not hear him. Death was a part of life, but unfortunately, death, under the guise of deceit was never pretty, and always hurting. He had seen that in his line of work, especially when he had been hired to kill those thought to be evil. If he had been any other type of an assassin, cold, and uncaring, he wouldn’t have thought twice about the matter. But his master had trained him differently, learning to respect that which was needed to be respected, and to understand the difference between actual goodness, as opposed to influential evil.

He was now sorry he had hurt Laurel for it was never his intention, but then again, his usual type of conversation always had this affect on people, and he would simply have to deal with the consequences. If for some reason Laurel chose not to associate with him, he would understand. He was still learning, and trying to involve himself within the human society was extremely difficult. Perhaps that was why he was so much like Ravin. Ravin, himself a loner, was very similar to Erlic, who was a loner himself. The real, and only slight difference was that Ravin had the ability to wash away his sorrows with drink, where Erlic simply tried to manifest the actions, and try to read deeper into them, thereby achieving sometimes nothing.

Laurel had managed, in some unique way, to expose a hairline crack to the door that housed the area containing his soul. But now that he had managed to anger the druid, that hairline crack no longer existed, and seemed to be covered up with mortar.

You must have patience in the world, for without it you will be lost. He tried to formulate what exactly his mentor had meant by that, but somehow never truly achieved that goal. He sighed outwardly, and finished his wine. Perhaps tonight would be a good night to simply try, and be human, if that was even possible. He grabbed one of the full bottles of wine, and made his way upstairs to the bedrooms. He passed a small table that held a vase with some very pretty flowers with an unusual shade of red. As frivolous as the idea seemed at the time, Erlic picked up one of the flours, looked around, and found something to attach it to Laurel’s door. He did so quietly, and discreetly, not wanting to further anger the druid, and not wanting to be seen in the action. Once finished, he retreated to his own room where he placed the bottle of wine on the dresser.

He eventually headed into Marz’s room where Tristan was trying to help the youth relax. He nodded at Tristan, and waited until his had both Tristan and Marz’s attention.

“The chakras,” Erlic began, and suddenly stopped. He closed his eyes momentarily before proceeding. It was quite evident that he didn’t like the way the conversation between Laurel, and he had ended. But he had to remove it from his mind, at least temporarily, in order to benefit his student with the knowledge of the chakras. “The chakras,” Erlic continued. “Need to have certain exercises done prior to each chakra exercise. You cannot, and should not, attempt to go on to closing the chakras until this meditation is mastered. You are to do this at least eight times a day for ten minutes each time until mastered. Once you have mastered the entire exercise, the meditation should take no longer than one minute to do.”

Erlic smiled at his student before turning to Tristan. “I hope that you will remember what Marz might forget regarding the exercises. It is very important, regardless of how foolish they may seem.”

Erlic explained to Marz to stand up. “Now, I want you to jump for five to ten minutes.” Marz looked at him a bit strangely, but Erlic insisted. “Just follow me, and do what I do.”

Erlic started to jump up and down, similar to jumping jacks. He made sure that Marz followed along with him, keeping the jumping steady, and even, not to slow, and not to quick. After seeing that the youth was displaying the correct rhythm, he motioned him to sit back down in the lotus position, a position Marz had already become familiar with.

“Now, listen to the sound of my voice,” Erlic suggested. “Close your eyes, and breath deeply.” Erlic paused a moment to make sure Marz was following his instructions. “Focus on the air that is taken into your lungs. Feel your heart pumping, as it circulates the blood within your body through every artery, and vein. Feel your body being refreshed, and invigorated.”

Again, Erlic paused to make sure Marz was following his instructions. “Focus on balance, that which is keeping you upright at the moment. As you focus on this balance, you will suddenly become aware of all the muscles in the body at once, as well as all the bones within your body. Feel as they conform to your shape. Now, contract your muscles as tightly as possible, hold the feeling as long as you can, then relax them completely, and feel yourself floating.”

Erlic went over this last scenario a few times; for Marz had the tendency to jerk a bit, yawn a bit, still not totally focused on what was intended. “As you listen to your breathing, feel it starting to slow. Even with your eyes closed, you can see all that there is surrounding you. Realize the way your body feels at this point of rest, and the invigoration you feel simply by letting your focus do the work for you. Contract…….let loose. Contract…….let loose.”

If Marz could concentrate on this achievement, he would be on his way to learning the first chakra. “Feel the lightness of your body, and how gravity seems to simply fade away. You are becoming one with the air, you can even hear the gentle whispers as they imitate the steady rhythm of your breathing.”

By now, Marz was in deep concentration, practicing the exercise precisely. Grant it there were a few times when he became distracted, but that period lapsed quickly back into the exercise. “That’s it Marz,” Erlic soothingly stated.

He pulled Tristan off to the side so that Marz would not hear them. “Perhaps now it is best you emulate, the way I did, and see how Marz responds to your voice.”

“Marz,” Erlic stated quietly. “You can open your eyes. Meditation is over.”

“That’s it?” Marz exclaimed somewhat strangely.

“Well for now that’s it,” Erlic responded. “We’re going to wait a bit, and then have Tristan lead you into the exercise. That way you won’t have to have me hovering around you all the time.”

Erlic paused momentarily until Marz was back to normal, and out of the meditative stance. It was important that Marz follow the instructions regardless of who was dictating the orders. After several minutes passed by, Erlic stood off to the side, and had Tristan guide Marz into the exercises.

Erlic watched carefully making sure that the dragon followed the instructions, and watched as Marz listened to his friend, obeying his every word. Tristan led Marz from the very beginning, starting with the jumping, and then into the meditation, and into the deep breathing. Tristan had it down pat. If this kept up, Marz would probably start the first lesson of the first chakra the next day.

The assassin watched as the dragon led his student through the phases of the exercises, pleased that Marz was such a willing candidate. It was fortunate for Marz to have such a good friend with Tristan.

“Excellent Tristan,” Erlic stated to the dragon. “Now I think I can leave the two of you alone. Just make sure that he practices this at least several times a day.”

Erlic left the room, and was about to enter his when he spotted the open doorway. When he looked in he was surprised to see Ravin. Erlic decided now was a good time as any to join his friend who was already quite inebriated. The assassin stole back to his room, retrieved the bottle of wine, and entered Ravin’s room. Erlic took a seat on the floor, and pulled the cork out of the wine bottle.

“You look as bad as I feel,” Erlic stated to his friend. “So tell me Ravin. Why do I have problems with women, and is there anything that I should be doing to correct my dilemma?” With that he took a long swig of wine, caring nothing at the moment except for the company of his friend.
