Tristan snuffed his cigarette out on the stone floor as he watched Marz approach him in the water. He smiled sadly and nodded in agreement to what his lover said, his pulse quickening automatically at the feel of his hands gently touching him. And although he was glad they weren’t going to discuss "the incident" anymore, he did kind of wish he could tell him how confused he felt because of it. Before he could find his tongue, though, Marz’s hands were moving again, slipping behind his back and pulling him down into the warm water with him.

It was probably for the best that he kept his mouth shut, anyway. Marz was the expert when it came to making love; he’d done everything and felt everything, and hadn’t ever likely been uncertain about himself in any way. Tristan stuttered over talking about sex, not only because it embarrassed him, but also because his inexperience made him feel like a complete idiot compared to his much more worldly lover.

When they kissed, he tasted the alcohol lingering on Marz’s tongue and almost gave him a quizzical look. Everybody knew that after two glasses of wine, the ultra tough ex-gang leader suddenly became more than overly friendly; three glasses and he couldn’t seem to stop giggling; four, and he was generally out cold. Unless he had some underlying desire to make a fool out of himself (a cute fool, but a fool none the less), Tristan couldn’t possibly fathom why he’d been drinking.

He forgot all about alcohol and its highly entertaining affect on the person he loved once the chakras were mentioned. He was just about to pelt Marz with questions about when, where, and how they’d go about doing it, but got cut short by the mischievous look in his lover’s eyes. Tristan knew that look. It was the same look he’d worn when they’d locked Corum in the closet. He almost started to back up without realizing it, but that was kind of hard to do in the water, so he just gulped and smiled tentatively.

He didn’t have time to yelp when Marz lifted him up and tossed him backwards a few feet. His heart thudded in his chest as they kissed underwater, and it reminded him of the old days, when Marz used to flirt outrageously with him, even though he had completely failed to notice it at first. He was surprised to find himself grinning when they resurfaced, both breathing heavily as they turned to listen to something Erlic was saying about Eremis.

Tristan was so excited to hear about Eremis’ whereabouts being discovered that he wanted to throw his arms around Marz in an attempt to express his overwhelming joy—so he did. Naturally, Marz was a bit shocked by his reaction, so Tristan decided to cap the whole thing off by planting another kiss on his lover’s bemused face.

“Yes!” he cried, finally backing off somewhat. “That’ll be a lot less to worry about—I mean, you don’t know how freaked out I’ve been over Eremis, how it’s all our fault that he’d been captured, mine especially, and now that they’ve finally found him…”

Tristan broke off and just beamed at Marz, unbelievably happy for once. The smile faltered slightly on his face when he thought about what he’d seen in the mirror, though. “I guess…some pretty awful things have happened to him by now,” he said more softly, his eyes losing focus for a moment. “But at least we do know he’s alive…”

He shook his head and growled lowly, annoyed with himself for always thinking so negatively. Eremis had been found! That was all that mattered.

“I wish I could see him again,” he muttered, almost to himself. Then he shrugged and smiled at Marz again. “Come on. Let’s go get something to eat. I haven’t eaten anything in over two hours so I’m about to pass out from hunger by now.”

He grabbed a blanket from their pack when they got out of the water, using it to dry himself off before redressing. His eyes watched Marz as he did the same thing, the ex-gang leader obviously enjoying the way the eyes of many of the others lingered in the same direction.

“It should be a sin to be that hot,” he grumbled, though he smiled and rolled his eyes when Marz shot him an answering grin. They pulled their clothes and weapons on before making their way to the food cooking over the fire in the center of the cavern. Tristan piled a generous helping of meat onto his plate before grabbing a glass of wine and sitting down next to Marz.

His eyebrows rose when he heard Jeremy turn and ask Saras if he wanted to dance. Valhorek had obligingly begun strumming a rather lively tune on the lute, and Tristan found himself wishing he had the guts to stand up and dance as well. He would love to dance with Marz, but the others would probably think that was rather weird. Next he thought of Tia, which was almost just as agreeable, really, especially since he’d already danced with her in that tent a while back while they were getting high together.

“Hey, Tia,” he suddenly said, drawing the pretty little thief’s attention. “Why don’t you show the others how we were dancing in that tent earlier? You could try on that funny outfit again and show the others your special moves.”

“Yeah, Tia,” Rowan piped up, after he grabbed some food and sat down beside her, a teasing grin on his face. “Why don’t you try on your outfit and show us your moves?”

Tristan’s comment had been completely innocent, of course, and he really never considered that Tia might be embarrassed about what had happened. It didn’t occur to him either that some of the guys in the group might have a slightly different reaction to seeing her in that somewhat skimpy little get-up she’d gotten from the Jann women, too.
