The lecture Marz expected from Erlic never came. What he heard instead slowly made his blood begin to boil. Tegol had sent his mercenaries to the tavern for a killing spree. The bastards had finally managed to breach the one place around Bizmar that Marz considered a safe haven. Why else would he have brought the urchins there to live? Azaya promised him they would be safe within her establishment. He wouldn't have gone with her and Erlic to find Xenon's dragons if the urchin's safety wasn't assured first. And now…….

Now, Rooster was dead. Marz's body shook with the rage that was building inside. How often had Rooster told him that he wanted to be just like him? The boy was determined to become a great warrior so that he could be the one to protect Josh and the other urchins he grew up with on the streets of Bizmar. "I wanna be exactly like you Marz! Then all the bad people will be afraid of me, and that fear will stop them from trying to hurt my friends."

"NO!!!" the ex-gang leader shouted. How dare that raking bastard, Tegol Denair take another innocent life! Marz blinked back tears then envisioned the face of the crimelord on the crumbling wall of a nearby structure. Momentarily blinded by the fury that consumed him, he didn't see the wall explode into a hundred pieces. A small chunk of mortar grazed his cheek as it flew past him, yet he didn't even feel it. The remainder of the building collapsed, sending a cloud of dust into the night sky, and attracting the attention of a small band of goblins living within the ruins.

The sound of rapidly approaching footsteps made Marz turn. Through the angry reddish haze that clouded his vision he was able to make out a dozen short, black, sinewy creatures rushing toward him. "You'll burn in hell for what you've done, Tegol," Marz whispered. Screams of agony pierced the silence of the evening when six of the goblins burst into flames. The remaining creatures ran at Marz, brandishing swords and daggers. "Welcome to your deaths," the ex-gang leader hissed.

Marz fought them with his bare hands, oblivious to the blades that pierced his body in a number of places. After batting away a sword, he grabbed the goblin that had held it, relishing the sound of breaking bones as he snapped its body in half over his bended knee. He flung the dead carcass at two of the fiends, knocking them to the ground. Maniacal laughter poured from him as he bashed in their skulls with the heels of his boots.

The remaining three goblins slashed at him with their weapons but were unable to slow him down. Marz spun, kicking the dagger out of a goblin's hand before grabbing it by the shoulders. The creature let out a horrific scream as it sailed through the air. It met its death when its body slammed into a nearby building, the odd angle of the impact breaking its neck. When the last two goblins turned to flee, Marz leapt at them, knocking them all to the ground. He snatched a sword from one of them then jumped to his feet and stabbed at their prone bodies until they looked like scattered pieces of a jigsaw puzzle composed of body parts.

Once his rage was spent, Marz dropped the sword and staggered away. He was covered from head to foot in blood; the droplets falling from his left hand leaving a trail in the dirt as he headed back toward the tower. Like a zombie, he approached Tristan when he spotted him standing in the distance. Tears rolled down his bloodied cheeks as he met the dragon's eyes. Without saying a word, he embraced his lover and buried his face into his neck, soaking Tristan's shirt with the tears that continued to fall.
