In reply to: Tristan 's message, "Man, booms really suck!" on 02:35:48 02/23/02 Sat

Rowan bit back a curse when the loud boom echoed throughout the entire west tower. He scrambled away from Jeremy, quickly pulling on his clothes, boots, and weapons. He finished first, his clothing as impeccably placed as always, a subtle indication that he was used to getting dressed at the drop of a hat. Sometimes the only thing worse than having to deal with the threat of strife and battle was having to encounter the angry wife or husband of an unfortunate lover.

He hovered by the door with a smile on his face as he watched his young friend tug his shirt on and grab his pack and sword. He found himself ruefully hoping the boy was so pleased with their brief time together that he’d seek out a repeat performance. It was kinda nice knowing there was now at least one person in the group he could back into a corner without having to go through those first encounter jitters.

The second they were out the door, he was all business again, rubbing his fingers over his swords as they raced down the hallway toward the kitchen. When they found the place apparently unmolested, with the rest of their friends looking just as confused as they both felt, he relaxed a little. He was a little alarmed by the overly gloomy expressions on everyone’s face; Ravin, in fact, looked downright depressed. The only slightly comical thing about the scene was Tristan hastily lacing up his pants, drawing a slight grin from Rowan’s face, though it wasn’t enough to ease the tension in the room for him.

Just as he was taking a seat, he heard someone approaching from behind. He turned in time to see a horribly bloodied Erlic, the guy looking as though he’d just raced through a whole horde of Sharm to get here.

“What the hell happened to you?” he asked, his usual flippant manner getting the best of him once again. First he couldn’t figure out why everyone looked so frigging down in the dumps, now Erlic walked in as if he’d spent the night staring death in the face a dozen times. But before anyone could respond, four more people piled into the room—the little kitchen was getting crowded, he noticed.

“Erlic!” he heard his sister cry, as she edged around the doorway to stare at the man. “What on earth has happened to you?” Rowan narrowed his eyes when he saw her bulging pockets, his ears picking up the telltale clink of coin and jewels. He examined the pockets of the three other women, his interest at first slowly monetary.

But looking at them wasn’t the same as looking at his sister, and he found his eyes spending way too much time on the swell of Isobel’s breasts, the curve of her hips, slightly softened by the brown leather pants she'd donned... (wait a second, where the hell was her skimpy outfit?? Damn it, she’d changed! Cruel woman!). Next he glanced over at Jade, disappointed to see her properly attired as well. Not having any hair was a bit of a turnoff, he had to admit, but he couldn’t help wondering at how lonely she must have been in that cell all by herself. The faster he made his move, he figured, the more willing she’d be to take him up on his offer.

Lastly, he looked at Tia, a strange smile coming to his face. Why did she make him so happy every time he laid eyes on her? Automatically, he forgot about the two other women, blaming his reaction to them on his usual shallow lustiness. There was just something special about the beautiful little thief. As much as he wanted to think about kissing her as he had earlier, and holding her in his arms (as he fully intended to be doing by tonight, after all this was over, by the way), he reluctantly returned his attention to Erlic—or whoever else would be willing to speak up and explain to the at least six people in the room who were totally clueless as to what was going on.
