In reply to: Tristan, Rowan, and Laurel 's message, "Off for some more exploring" on 12:52:53 02/27/02 Wed

When Laurel took his hand, Argus was practically transported with pleasure. He turned and smiled dreamily at her, his eyes sparkling gently.

“I thought we should walk in pairs,” she said to him, smiling. “It’s dangerous in this place, don’t you think so? Perhaps it would be safer if we adopted the buddy system while exploring.” Oh she was so beautiful in the moonlight. “Will you be my buddy, Argus?”

He moaned a little before answering, "Sweet La'el... Nowt could make me 'appier than ter be yer buddy. Ay won't let anyth'n evil befall yew. Ay promise." He gave her hand a gentle squeeze and tried not to stare at her as they walked along.

Argus regarded the temple with disdain. This was nothing compared to the Temple of the Sun, which was grand and glorious. This was practically a hovel. And doubtless the deities worshipped herein were second rate. His impression of the place was not improved as bits of plaster came down just because a bat happened to land in the domed rafters. Granted, it was a very large bat, but still, the place couldn't have been built very well if it was falling all apart like this. He was sure the Temple of the Sun would still be standing centuries from now and wouldn't be crumbling to bits like this one.

When they entered the altar room he was even more taken aback. The statues depicted deities he had only read about as myths... evil ones worshipped by shapeshifters. Indeed, the Jann confirmed this. But he didn't think they really existed. He started to feel slightly wary. What if these evil gods inhabited this place? But no... would it be falling down around them if they did?

As if in response to his thoughts, suddenly the roof seemed to come down on them all with a great crash and the torch went out. Argus felt himself knocked to the ground and his leg pinned beneath some rubble, but it wasn't too bad. When everything calmed down and the beautiful Laurel had demonstrated her brilliance by providing light for everyone he easily pushed off the chunk that had trapped his leg. It was bleeding, but it was only a scratch really.

He heard someone calling for a healer and rushed over. It was that bald woman and she'd pulled Laurel's brother from the rubble. He had a piece of plaster or something stuck in his arm.

"Dat doesn't look good. Yew 'old still while ay pull it out, den ay'll 'ave yer fixed up in no time," he told Rowan. "'Old still!" He warned again, then pulled the shard from his arm. He winced as Rowan yelped and the blood started to flow. He tossed the chunk aside and put his hands over the wound, murmuring a spell of healing as he concentrated. A soft golden glow seemed to penetrate Rowan's arm and it began to heal, leaving only a small wound, which Argus examined.

"You'll need ter 'uv de 'ealer look at dat now. Juss need a bandage," he told Rowan. Then he turned to see if anyone else needed his assistance. He was quite glad to see that Laurel was just fine.
