Subject: Scratching away, and Isobel
In reply to: Marz and Justin 's message, "The merc and the thug" on 09:55:42 01/22/02 Tue

Valhorek had enjoyed his time with Jamal. He had thought over what the female centaur had told him of her various medical practices, and he of his. Together they had exchanged various thoughts of medical practice, hoping to employ them sometime in the future.

As Val was about to leave he turned to the female healer. “I have decided that since I came upon this bird while in your tent, it is only fitting that it employs the name of Jamal.”

Jamal smiled, and nodded at the healer wishing him the best of luck. Carefully, the healer carried the injured bird in a towel provided by Jamal, and tried to soothe the bird to the best of his abilities. He happened to come across Marz who was itching, and scratching in a variety of places. Valhorek thought it somewhat odd since the youth never showed those signs before. He tried to examine the area but Marz merely shoved his hand aside. The healer gave him a stern look, shoved his hand away, and examined the area. “You’ve got flea bites,” Val informed the youth.

He was about to hand the bird over to Marz to hold when it dawned on him that the fleas would jump on the bird as well. He placed the animal on the ground, and dug through his medical bag for a bottle, and handed it to Marz. “This contains a combination of pennyroyal, cedar oil, and boiled lemon peel. Place it over your body, as well as in your hair, let it sit for a few minutes after shampooing your hair, and then rinse it off. If you keep scratching, see me again.”

The healer was about to leave when Marz stopped him. “I think you’d better give some of that stuff to Justin,” the youth stated even though he would have preferred Justin to remain flea bitten for the rest of the journey. The thought of the merc infesting everyone with fleas didn’t sit well with him. “I think I got the fleas from him.”

Val nodded, and proceeded to where Justin sat. The merc was busy scratching almost every part of his anatomy. The healer simply shook his head, and handed another bottle to Justin, explaining to the merc what to do with the contents.

“Thanks Doc,” Justin stated as he started up toward the lake where he had just returned.

Valhorek spotted Isobel staring down at something, and decided to join her. With the injured falcon in his arms, he looked down at the sketch that Ebessa had drawn in the sand. “Is that the sketch of the ruins?” Valhorek asked the young woman, hoping he wasn’t interfering, seeing that she had parchment in hand, and was copying the sketch onto the parchment.

Hoping she wouldn’t mind, he introduced her to the falcon. “This is Jamal,” Valhorek stated. “I found him wounded in the desert, and with a bit of luck, I hope to have….” He suddenly stopped for he didn’t know the gender of the bird. It was one area he lacked in. “It suddenly dawned on me that I have no idea if Jamal is a male or a female. Might you know by any chance?”

How could he not have thought of that possibility? Perhaps he was loosing his touch, or simply didn’t think of that angle. If Isobel couldn’t tell, he would have to return to Jamal, the female centaur, or find someone who knew more about animals than he. He smiled realizing that Eremis would probably know.
