Isobel sat down on a rock near the fire, sipping her java. She felt sluggish still and was having difficulty focusing. The stupid kraken venom must have taken a toll. She glanced over at Erlic, who was talking in hushed tones to Laurel. Frio had sat with her all night, she knew. She had awakened once or twice and seen him there.

She thought about going to thank him, but somehow she just felt too weary for now. She instead sipped more of her java, contemplating the dream she had had last night. This was a dream she had had many times before. She hated it. It always made her feel sick in her stomach and often made her cry. She wondered if she had done so last night and hoped Frio would not tell anyone if she had.

She looked down at her sword. It was older-looking and more worn than in her dream. It also seemed smaller when she held it than when her father had. She decided this was simply because she had been much younger then. She ran her finger along the hilt, touching the worn design, feeling the crevices in the leather. They fit her own fingers now, not her father's. His traces had been eradicated, and yet... somehow he was still there. Perhaps this was the only magic her sword held. But even if it was, it was enough. "Te quiero, papa," she whispered to the sword.

Caught up in her own thoughts, she was startled to hear Marz cry out, and noticed that Erlic was gone. She stood, moving toward the cave where Marz and Tristan were. Not another monster! she thought wearily.

As she arrived at the cave entrance, however, she saw that there was no monster. Marz was sobbing into Tristan's shirt and Erlic was speaking to them about Chakras and being enslaved by mages. She shuddered slightly and turned to go, not wishing to intrude.

Moving quietly back to her rock beside the fire, she had to grin as she saw Barry snuggled in Tia's lap. That skull had a certain charm about him. It was probably a good thing he did not have a whole body. Who knew what a scoundrel like that could get up to?

Isobel fetched herself another mug of java and a piece of bread with a bit of cheese. She took a piece of the meat that was still in the pan. It was slightly burned, but it did not matter. It was delicious. Sitting on her rock, enjoying her breakfast, she had to smile. Though there might assassins lurking everywhere and they were heading off on a dangerous journey and a difficult quest, she knew she would love every minute of it. It was in her blood, after all. "Gracias, Papa. You have given me an exciting life." The sword at her hip seemed to warm at the words.
