okay, here goes...

The Hughes family are one of the core families in town. Nancy Hughes is the matriach. Tom Hughes is her grandson, married to Margo Huges (role previously played by HBS when she was on that show many years ago, btw). Margo is a police detective, altho married to Tom she has a son with Hal Munson, her commanding officer on the force. Hal and his wife Barbara have just been divorced. If you ask me, I think Barbie is going thru a "mid-life" crisis and has become completely infatuated with the town's villain, Craig Montgomery who is also Margo's "bad seed" brother. Craig showed back up in town, wheeling and dealing and throwing money around like it was water and is connected to the Hong Kong mafia... who are now on his tail for him to settle his "debts" with them, and all of a sudden Craig found himself in dire financial straits. Barbara is famous designer and is filthy rich with a HUGE portfolio, cuz hubby Hal insisted on them living off of his middle income earnings while they were married, so Barbie's money has been sitting drawing mega-interest over the years... and Craig is playing her like a fiddle! He's desperate for money and he's trying to manuever her into marrying him so he can have access to the purse strings. He talked her into going down to the Dominican Republic to get a "quickie" divorce from Hal, who is racing against time (before Craig puts a ring on Barbie's finger) to prove that Craig is a murderer along with a host of all other sorts of shady dealings.

The other core family in town are the Synders. Emma is the matriarch of that one. They run a farm on the outskirts of town. Jack Synder is her nephew. He is married to woman he doesn't really love, Julia, who is about to become a psycho trying to hold onto him, keep him in their marriage since she has now lost their baby. Jack's true love is Carly, who was kidnapped last year on the day THEY were suppose to be married. Jack thought Carly had willingly left him at the altar, turns out she was kidnapped by a "hubby" Jack never knew she had and held against her will for 6 months (in reality, the actress was on maternity leave). So that's when Jack marries Julia. Carly returns to town and ends up in cahoots with Craig.... Julia knows Jack and Carly are still in love and it's killing her, she's about to "crack".

Holden Synder is Emma's son. He and his wife Lily are also estranged. Lily has a twin sister (the actress is doing a bang up job playing dual roles) by the name of Rose who has fallen in love with her sister's husband. Holden and Lily were teenage sweethearts and have been with other people along the way but always seem to migrate back to each other. The reason they are apart now is Lily fell in love with another guy, Simon from Austrailia who is an illegal immigrant, doesn't have the proper papers to be in America so the IMS have been on his trail. He ends up in a "marriage of convenience" with Katie simply to get a green card to stay here. Katie is in love with him and is bound and determined to have him. Lily got to a point where she thought her love for Simon was "hurting" too many people.... Holden, her children, her mother Lucinda, so now she has broke off with Simon and left town for a little while to clear her heard. In the meantime, her twin sister Rose (who I love) is making inroads with hubby Holden. Despite trying to resist her getting involved with Rose "seriously", I think Holden likes her, she is very much a free spirit and more compatible to "farm boy" Holden, whereas Lily was raised with a silver spoon in her mouth by her mother Lucinda, the richest woman in town.

Craig was once married to another of Lucinda's daughters, so Craig's young son Bryan is Lucinda's grandson. Lucinda recently found out that Craig forged her name on papers for a trust fund she established for Bryan (becuz he needs money so badly), so now she is on his tail and has enticed Carly (who is living with Craig, platonically) to go in cahoots with her and help her find those papers that will nail Craig.... Lucinda is very much a shark herself and so is Carly, she reminds me of younger but poorer version of Lucinda... Carly thinks fast on her feet!

okay, that brings us to Molly and Jake. Molly is Carly's cousin, Jake is the same Jake from Another World. Jensen Buchanan (AW's Vicky) recently ended a short run on ATWT as the "ghost" of Jake's deceased wife. That was an excellent storyline, well written and performed, produced, directed! Each day it sent shivers down my spine, I was sorry to see it end. Anyway, Vicky started "appearing" to Molly first in her dreams, then she actually started seeing Vicky's ghost. At first, Jake didn't believe her and actually took her to a psychiatrist, LOL! Eventually, Jake himself had an encounter with Vicky and those scenes were SO "beautiful"... Molly and Jake were trying to figure out why Vicky was appearing to them but Vicky didn't really know herself. Each time she appeared to them, she would give them these "clues" or say things that she couldn't explain. Vicky died over a year ago in a plane crash and all she knew was she couldn't "crossover to the other side" until Molly and Jake HELPED her to do that, altho Vicky couldn't tell them what they needed to do in order to accomplish that. Turns out that Vicky did not die immediately in that plane crash. She lived for 3 days, she had been rescued by a guy in a boat and Vicky was 7 months pregnant at the time... she lived long enough for her and Jake's twin daughters to be born... so THAT was the mystery! She could not crossover until Molly and Jake figured all of this out, that Jake and Vicky's twin daughters were alive and being raised by the guy who had originally rescued Vicky from the water after the crash. The special effects in this story were absolutely wonderful, so was the original Jake/Vicky chem who were one of AW's supercouples, Molly and Vicky even had "chemistry", LOL!.... the scene at Vicky's grave in the cemetary which took place after Molly and Jake had found the girls and had them in their arms was totally stunning! Jake cried and cried, and I cried right along with him! Now that he had his babies (that he previously did not know existed), he did NOT want to say "goodbye" to Vicky again... that LAST scene between them had me crying like a baby! It was beautiful...

That's why I have said on the board many times that there ARE ways for writers to move one-half of a supercouple into another pairing that shows RESPECT for the previous pairing and ATWT's new writer has pulled it off beautifully with Jake and Molly. These two also have fabulous chemistry... they find each other's eyes (much in the same way TnT always did) and lock onto each other with their eyes, I love them even tho I also loved Jake and Vicky on AW... so ATWT's writer is proof-positive that fans of ONE couple CAN be "moved" gracefully into other pairings that involves only one-half of said couple. I think you will like Jake and Molly.

Alright.... misc stuff.... Bryant (Craig's son) has a girlfriend Jennifer who is Barbara and Hal's teenage daughter, which makes the situation with Craig/Barbara/Hal even worse. Right now, Jennifer HATES Barbara for breaking up their home and going after her boyfriend's (Bryant) father. Bryant also hates his father... very sticky situation there.... Margo is desperate to prove that her brother is NOT a killer, she is a cop, so is Jack Synder, Hal is their boss and both Jack and Hal are trying to keep the evidence they're building a case against Craig with from Margo, conflict of interest since she is Craig's sister. The other day Jack caught Margo using "steam" to open an envelope that had evidence in it. Winston Lowe was the "former" hubby of Carly's who had kidnapped her on her wedding day, and one of Craig's mafia cronies, a woman from Hong Kong had signed a statement against him saying that Craig actually poisoned Winston, died herself while in police custody, died of cyanide poisoning and Craig was the last person who visited her, to see her alive.... Tom Hughes (former DA) has gone back into private practice and his daughter, Lien - a daughter he and a Vietnamese woman conceived during the Vietnam war - is fresh back in town to set up a father/daughter legal practice.... Isaac (I LOVE him) owns the only "happening" club in town and seems to be in the middle of everyone's business, he is a wheeler and dealer from the streets... Lisa (Tom's mother) was a hellraiser in her day and has been married like 8 or 10 times, LOL!.. she and Isaac are great buds. Lisa is also rich, owns a newspaper, restaurant, and when Craig was squeezing Isaac for money, she rode to his rescue so now is part owner of Java Underground, Isaac's club.... Isaac has a brother, Ben, who is doctor. Ben is single and trying to adopt a young boy whose mother has neglected him and he's been shipped from foster home to foster home, his name is Curtis.... Ben and Denise were romantically involved but aren't any longer altho Ben is still in love with her, I think she's got a thing for his younger brother Isaac now and won't admit it, and Curtis keeps trying to play "matchmaker" for Ben and Denise, he knows that Ben's chances of adopting him would be better if he wasn't single... Molly also has a teenage daughter, Abigail, that she gave up for adoption and those two have only recently become close, Holden is Abigail's father.... Holden and Lily recently had to give up a young baby girl they adopted, turns out the baby belonged to Denise and she had never consented to a legal adoption.... Denise, Ben, and Isaac are African-American and the father of Denise's baby is white, Andy Dickson, whose mother is Kim Hughes married to Tom's father Bob Hughes. Bob is also a doctor and so is Andy's father, John Dickson.

okay, I hope this makes sense as I do not have time to go back and proof any of it, LOL!.... but this should be enough info for you to know "who's who" when you watch the show! imo, the reason why ATWT's new headwriter has turned this show around is two-fold... 1) he's from "outside" of the daytime industry and 2) he "studied" Doug Marland's (ATWT legendary HW and icon in the biz) original bible for this show and its characters... I wish more of today's soaps would follow ATWT's lead and bring in more "fresh blood"... I think that's why this show is rockin' right now, it's a perfect blend of "fresh" AND oldtime soap opera storytelling...
