Subject: Jeff Katz is right - NO Sept. 11th Holiday!!!

Did anyone else hear yesterday's show? Jeff had on a representative from NJ that wanted to make 09/11 a holiday. Every time Jeff tried to explain why that isn't a good idea, she kept saying, "Well, I guess it affected me more than other people." Um, excuse me, I would argue the opposite. Jeff (and his listeners) are against the idea BECAUSE we care about what happened that day and feel this idea (just like KTC3) trivializes what happened on that tragic day. On the other hand, Smerconish's listeners (to quote Bogey) criticize “Opie & Anthony for a stunt he called "sophomoric" just days after his own event which turned the biggest national tragedy of our generation into what he admitted was ‘a circus atmosphere.’" To the Smercontologists, I again pose the following: Awhile back, Phil Hendrie had a bit where his “guest” had a fundraising event where people paid $5 to simulate sodomizing a Bin Laden dummy. Of course, callers called in to condemn the “guest”. Well, what is the difference between Hendrie’s fictional event and KTC3? I don’t think they are that far apart.

[> My god, what a silly argument. You would do just about anything to keep this stupid discussion open. Comparing a "sodomizing" event to one where tomatos are thrown, that's is as far a strech as it gets. -- Josh Mostel, Founder, Smercontology, 15:11:55 08/31/02 Sat

Give it up, it is a dead argument. There were no protestors, there were no fights. There wer no crying children. There wasn't a single person who showed up to cry at how their loss was trivialized. News reporters didn't swarm to the event to critize, magazine articles weren't published....come to think of it, Geraldo never even showed his face. Your pathetic attempt to try and turn a hramless event into some time of horrific exploitation of the WTC disaster is as thin as a wet paper towel.

Please, throw a real argument next time....otherwise, stop wasting this board's time.

[> Killer Tomato Contest -- Jay, 05:18:47 09/01/02 Sun

The Killer Tomato Contest is so sophomoric. Smerconish ought to can the tomatos. Imagine bin Laden learning of a bunch of stewed Americans throwing perfectly good produce at his image. He might "die" from laughing too hard.

[> No 911 holiday! -- Merlin, 17:21:36 09/02/02 Mon

Jeff Katz is totally right...No 911 holiday! And don't tell me I wasn't affected! I have a job where I'm always exposed to the news, and I always knew the latest...I had to make an effort to NOT watch. For the first time in my life, I was emotionally affected by a news event. I've been having nightmares about related topics (invasion, war, combat) 3-4 times a week ever since.
Don't make it a holiday, though. And there are way too many commemorations...don't worry...we'll never forget.
Thanks to the board for letting me say all this.
