I have received the following private reply from a source very close to me and who knows of what he speaks:"I believe Ramses XXIII was the Ram better known as Ralph who was put to sleep in the spring of 1969. This was done because his horns were growing into his head and crushing his skull, a common affliction among Dorsett Rams, not because of actions by another school, although I have heard at least one earlier ram died as a result of being painted by Jaspers. After Ralph there was another Ram, who would have been Rameses XXIV. He was followed, I believe, by our last live mascot, a ewe. I don't know whether this was due to political correctness or a poor biology department, but many fine traditions were lost with this selection." -- Fordham Rams Basketball Message Board
