Subject: I'm not sure what you mean by "exceptional", but I do know Fordham is becoming a "hot" school for a variety of particular reasons, including our academic standing, location, library, Jesuit affiliation, better marketing, and word-of-mouth. No doubt we are also "rising with the tide" (driven by technology and common forms which makes it easy to spam many schools) that is helping all schools to increase their applicant pools and drive down acceptance rates.
In reply to: d. atkins '02 's message, "I would like some more context on these numbers. While I am happy to see Fordham is getting more competitive, I suspect every NY regional school from Columbia to Pace to SUNY Stony Brook have gotten more competitive. So the question is, is our trend exceptional- or are we just rising with the tide?" on Wed April 13, 2005 18:43:26

  • Hey, no matter what the reason is for Fordham's increased apps/interest, just go w/ the flow and enjoy it. There is obviously a huge advantage advantage w/ NYC...roll with it. I'm sure Fordham has made great strides in many areas but even if the increase is for the NYC factor alone, so be it. You don't think NYU has turned into an elite school in the last 15 years primarily for that very reason? heck, Nova's huge boost in academics/appsb/c was largely due to a basketball championship. Sure, they have had great improvements in facilities and programs but there are alwasys factors beyond academics which contribute to a school's appeal. (NT) -- Novafan, Thu April 14, 2005 16:22:45
