He didn't seem to have a problem apologizing to them, and if he's unhappy with them taking potshots at his appearance 1) he started it, he has no standing to take offense and 2) he should turn on people who supported him in his position as editor even as they criticized him for his lapse (hopefully that's all it was even though he seems to have repeated it) in judgement.
