Subject: John, I agree re: Philly unless the league goes back to the Palestra. I think that could work. I completely agree re: DC for the reasons you cited. Definitely worth a try. I for one might have made the trip for the quaterfinal game. I also think Richmond deserves a shot. I bet that city would support the tournament. I think we're several years away from it but I'd like to see a small rotation -- Dayton, Palestra, DC, and maybe Richmond.
In reply to: John 's message, "Like the Big East, I'd like to find a facility to handle the tourney every year and stick with it. I also think the facility has to be in a city where the conference has a presence, so rule out Albany, AC, Cleveland, etc. I think the MCI Center in Washington would be an attractive location for the tourney. It's readily accessible by rail, road and air for the East Coast programs, and no more than an hour's flight for everyone else (a bit longer for St. Louis). It's a nice new NBA facility in an attractive city with plenty of hotels, restaurants, attractions, etc. Philly had its turn, but the turnout was spotty, the arena was a schlep from downtown (same reason the Meadowlands won't do), and we didn't get the city's premiere venue." on Mon March 14, 2005 20:11:53
