Subject: Neither publication is really worth reading - explanation INSIDE.

Neither Rose Hill publication is very good at the moment. To begin, the paper is riddled with awful typographical errors - IMO it comes across as though the people at the paper think their lackadaisical approach equates to hipness - that their content is so trenchant, so "with it," that they don't have time, or need to proofread. The Ram, meanwhile, frequently has misspellings in its headlines, and ignores basic fundamentals of newspaper layout, such as having photos oriented so their subject faces into the page, placing photos so they don't break an entire column, and so on. When the proposed expansion for Lincoln Center was officially announced, it took The Ram two weeks to get it into an issue. My biggest complaint, however, is that almost every issue this year has led with a posed photo that is related to the subject of the lead article: for example, a still-life of "checkbook and pen" for the article on the salaries of University Presidents. I'm sorry, that is simply not photojournalism. I am really dismayed at both the underwhelming content and the unprofessional presentation in both publications, which is a real shame, given Fordham's proud journalistic tradition.

  • My apologies on the 2-week comment. I got the days of the week mixed up and thought that February 23, the day the University issued the press release, was a Tuesday, which I understand to be your deadline nights (in that case it would have made it eligible for that last February issue). I look now and see that it's a Wednesday. But nevertheless, why didn't that story hit in the next issue? Citing midterms is an extremely weak excuse: you had an issue of The Ram come out on March 2nd or 3rd, did you not? There were stories in that issue, were there not? You were taking precious time away from studying for midterms, regardless. You simply didn't spend that time on the biggest news to come out of Fordham this semester, because, it seems, you missed it. There are no excuses for that.
