Subject: You overlooked the other means of upward mobility - a good coach can actually elevate his program to the next level. Willard is doing that at HC (and just humbled ND), Martelli at St. Joe's (and shocked the basketball world last year). With our location, academic profile, and conference we have tremendous potential to be far more than we are now. Fordham should be positioned as a fantastic opportunity for those with ambition, not as a safe gig for those who don't have what it takes to make it all the way to the top.
In reply to: Rambacker 's message, "This is a very good point. Many coaches just want to get to the next level without having a clear understanding of what their "ceiling" is as coaches. Gillen would have been better off staying at Providence or Xavier, as would Fran Fraschilla at Manhattan, etc., etc. etc. DW may be a great example of a guy who will do very well at Fordham but should consider carefully if he should move up to a higher level. It's another example of being careful what you wish for." on Tue March 15, 2005 21:45:47
