Subject: Mind if I glean a few ideas as well, Blondie? (blathering and yammering enclosed)
In reply to: Blondie 's message, "What type of wedding did you all have? (m)" on 07:53:29 04/09/03 Wed

Newman and I are in the same boat. We're looking at different options (time of year, how big a hoo-haa, the honeymoon, etc) and I can't make up my mind what I wanna do.

Newman wants "ASAP and with the kids involved." I want the kids involved too but ASAP means that it's going to be complicated. This summer is out due to a variety of reasons of scheduling/visitation/vacation time from work. If it's this fall/winter, then we'll have to take the kids out of school to elope -- which could mean complications from our former spouses. Who wants to put money down on a wedding/honeymoon with their ex's permission hanging in the balance? Not I.

Which brings us to next summer -- hardly ASAP but a time of year we can guarantee to have the tribe properly assembled.

The last time, I had the full-blown hoo-haa. Big wedding, reception at the country club, yadda, yadda, yadda. It was nice, but it was over so fast for blowing THAT much money.

Second time around, I don't want a big hoo-haa. First of all, I can't see spending that much money when we desperately need so many practical things -- like a car big enough so we can ride places together without having to rent a minivan. Secondly, (and this is probably a personality flaw) I secretly suspect that the more a couple spends on the wedding, the less likely they are to be happy enough just being together (see above). I am happy as a clam with Newman so something like ice sculptures or the releasing of doves would seem like pouring a bottle of Krystal over a perfectly delicious cheeseburger if you know what I mean.

Tenitively, we've settled on July 31, 2004. It's a "blue moon" day which appeals to my admittedly high school girl's sense of romance. And I say tentatively as I am likely to blurt out, "You know, why don't we fly back east for Christmas and get married in New York -- nothing fancy, just us and the kids in some tacky clerks office in Brooklyn and then we can all go skating in Rockefeller Center."

In fact, I said exactly that last night.

So, here are things I know:

1) No big hoo-haa. Though a little hoo would be nice.

2) Definitely want the kids involved. None of this, "Here's your new daddy/mommy!" stuff. Ick.

3) I want a first dance. I don't need a DJ and drunken crowd (see above). Just a CD player, the Norah Jones CD, and Newman would work.

4) I want photographs of the event. I don't need Herb Ritts (which is good since he's dead) but I don't want the pictures of The Big Day to be taken using products from Polaroid.

5) I want us all to be dressed "nice."

6) I want flowers involved though not so much of them to be funeral and/or Kentucky Derby in display.

Okay, anyone want to have a go at my dilemma(s)?
