Subject: New Dune series or lack thereof

I'm sure this has been discussed to the extent that it makes people sick to read another post about it, but I am still wondering.
A poster on the scifi.com COD board has repeatedly defended his position that there will NOT be any more Dune series in any format...at least not on SciFi. The reasons he cites include the dropping numbers in viewership after COD's night one, the mini-series as an unviable format (because it is too hard to retain an audience), and the exorbitant cost to produce a Dune series akin to the Sopranos or Sex and the City (which I guess SciFi doesn't have). He claims that there is a substantial Dune fan-base, but it is not large enough (based on the numbers) to convince producers that a new Dune project would be viable.
Of course this is a huge dissappointment to all us Dune fans, who watched and enjoyed both the first Dune mini and its sequel.
So what does everyone on this board think?
