Hmmm ... Do you remember all of those annoying people at the Sci Fi Dune forum that kept saying how they were going to boycott the show? Of course, those with half a brain realize that one who is truly pro-American values would necessarily have to be pro-free speech and that an actor's political views are certainly not a reason to boycott something they're in, but how many people do you really know who fit the description of "someone with at least half of a brain"? While the loyal Dune fans were not going to miss this show for anything, and probably wouldn't care if the cast and crew were all members of the American Nazi party, the much larger group of casual science fiction fans would have avoided it as their way, albeit impotent way, of supporting America. It may or may not support my theory that according to the Internet Movie Database, CoD was slightly better liked internationally than in the U.S.

It has been advertised that one of the most important things in the making of this mini, as in the first, was accuracy to the books. This is, of course, bull shit. In all fairness though, they never actually said that anyone other than the screen writer had this as a priority. But, getting to the point, Susan Surandon was a horrible choice, simply because she doesn't look the part. It would have been a much better idea to wait with her to play one of the leading Reverand Mothers in Heretics or Chapterhouse, but this was not what they did. They cast her in a role that made absolutely no sense and went completely against the idea of "accuracy to the books" for the purpose of having a major star. The story suffered from their expansion of her role, and seeing her next to her "sister" was the most ridiculous part of the whole feature.

So, they paid extra money to cast a nonsensical choice for a character, requiring also that the rest of the story suffer and ... it backfired. Now, because of this idiotic blunder, the story of Dune on-screen might be over forever.

So, what could they do? Would they consider continuing to make miniseries with an adaptation of GEoD? If Noble1 is right, then this has basically no chance of happening. Perhaps they could do a weekly series for one, two or three seasons and conclude it with GEoD? This is also probably not very likely. It seems more probable that this series would go the way of Birds of Prey, not even making it through a whole season, and this not because it's unpopular, but because of some screw-up on the part of the network.

Even if it does finish on a good note, what then? Will they then decide to go back to making miniseries for HoD? Yeah right! Perhaps they'll continue the series some more, showing some events in the 1500 year gap after GEoD. So then will they use that same method to go right through the final books of the series? Even if that did happen, the result would be CRAP. Ah, you SUCK, Sci Fi. You do not deserve the right to produce these features.

Burning be on you, Sci Fi, from the depths of the Fiery Abyss. You shall have not life nor seed nor soul. Mountains crumble into endless chasms and the sea becomes a vast Lake of Fire, but your magot-ridden corpse will neither live nor die and be thirsty and tormented from everlasting to everlasting.

OK, maybe I'm not serious about that last part, but that's how I feel. If you don't like my stylized curse, feel free to curse them with the original. If you don't like to witness long rants like this, then I apologize.
