My apologies to assistant burgermeister Pantaleone. Henceforth and forevermore I will address him as Yr Holiness.

Rarely have more people spent more time doing bad things to each other because of the interminable strife between Britain and France than in the war of 1812.

It was a waste of effort and life. Perhaps a memorial to bad judgment and stupidity and the fact that ordinary people pay the price? People should be reminded of it. Frequently. Pointedly.

But I do not think that was what Coupland was about.

I do find it droll that the 500 large was forked over by "Malibu Investments" and that everyone's homeowner's association fees are going to be a bit larger.

They'll be reminded of the pain in their wallets every time they pass by this....ahem....statement.

I do not think that styrofoam, resin and rebar makes for durable public monuments, which means that maybe that yanqui acid rain may do some good after all.
